iv got no 4th or 5th gear

was just out havin a run uver the tops
all was great till give it some welly in 1 2 3 4th
now iv got no 4th or 5th
iv allways had a problem with it poping out of 5th
im hoping its the gear selector or summat cheap to fix coz i know a new box will be hard to get and not cheap to fit

does it sound like selector ??
i can still use 1 2 3 with no probs or crunching

how much if its worse case
are all the boxs the same as long as its 16v or are willy slightly differnt ?

    sorry for double post

the williams box is only fitted to teh williams mate.

theres bin loadsa discussions about the diffrences between the valver/willy box.

i was told , after my rebuild that all teh gears are slightly diff. and that the diff etc is also a lot better than teh valver variant. hence gettin the re con was so expensive. reno no longer sell gear kits etc for the willy box, i needed new layshaft etc etc etc, which had o be machined.

diff ppl have diff opinions, but general concencus is that the willy box is same as valver 1st - 4th with 5th being slightly taller.

but like i say the guy who built mine says they completely diff. 1st -5th, with 1st -4th bein a slight closer ratio than the valvers, and 5th longer

Join the club mate, my gearbox just went tits up last week.

Did you loose reverse n all?

I'm getting mine reconned at the minute. apparently the main shaft had broken causing me to loose all the gears after 2nd. Yours could have had a similar break, but further down?

Don't really know much abotu them though so don't take my word for it mate

iv still got reverse m8 so far hope it lasts aswell
coz iv got to run it like this for a few weeks :(
how much is it to get the willy box reconned

sounds like both boxs look the same but with slight differnces
if i can i will get or recon the willy box
but if i needed to could i put a valver box in (but might feel slight slower ? at top end)
    or do they not fit

I'km running a 2nd hand valver box on the hybrid, feels fine, but then havent' driven it with a williams box, for the price that valver boxes are 2nd hand.....i've seen one go on ebay that needed a new circlip in the diff (5 mins job tops) for £15.50......at those prices, esp if you can do teh work yourself its just not worth getting one reconed or buying a new one

    thanks for the info guys
    if i read this right
i can put a valver box on my willy if i cant get a willy box
BUT there is differnces between the 2 boxs i.e slightly differnt gearing maybe a bit less strenth

obviously i wanna try n find/replace the box with a willy 1 but a lot dearer and harder to source i bet

trying to ring LTR now to see what they have but no joy yet

do u think its plasable for me to recon the box myself? im a total noob at engines but if i had it in my front room with drawings is it possable or is it a real specialised job

specialised job, i thoguth about doing mine, but there are bearings etc that need pressing, and so many specialist tools, its not worth it

He is right they are different inside the willy gears ,cogs and shafts are well bigger, the rest of the box is 90% the same.
the megane coupe 2.0 16v also have a jc5 box.
