    Gearbox strip down???

    anyne know how to strip down a JC5 box????

    nitromose or sandblast it.

    Yes.

    You need to take the end cover off, then knock the tabs over on the end washer and remove the very thin nuts. You can then remove the end gear. You then need to remove the circlips that hold the bearings in. You need to spin them rather than using circlip pliers. You can then take the bearings out. Remove all the bolts that hold the bellhousing and diff to the maincase. You should then be able to knock on the shafts to split the gearbox. You will then be able to remove the shafts/selctors/gears.

    I might have missed a bit out its a few months since I did one.

    theres a gear box manual that shows u the ins and outs of it....might be sum help 2 ya m8....let me kno if u want it ill try and dig it out

    It is helpful to do this in a clean area, as when you start removing all the bits you will have springs and ball bearings flying everywhere. If the area is not clean then you will never find them again!! You will also need a magnetic probe to remove the locking tabs before removing the shafts.

    If you are not confident then leave it to someone who knows what they are doing. I stripped mine down, but after realising there was slightly more too it than I imagined, I took my box of bits to a local specialist to re-build for me.

    Learnt my lesson, the hard way. Good fun though!!
