Heads up before I attempt to replace the handbrake cables

I'm replacing the handbrake cables very soon and I'm after a heads up before I start.

I have seen that the cables are held in above exhaust and behind the heatshield.

Will I have to remove the heatshield to fit he cables or is it done from inside the car i.e removing carpet etc.

    Any help will be appreciated.
