    Valver vs Vectra GSi 3.2 & Saab 9-3 Aero

    As I put in the other post I got my gearbox sorted and the engine running well so when my mate asked if i'd take him to work this morning I accepted.

    I dont know if anybody will know the area, but the A6195 is a mássive bypass going from Cudworth to jct 36 of the M1. Its about half and half dual and single carraigeway, but there are loads of 2 and 3 mile long stretches between roundabouts.

    Anyway, as I was coming back the Vectra was just infront of me. I've raced them before and always seemed to keep up but not be able to overtake. Anyhow, we were playing a bit, dropping back and then flooring it round roundabouts etc. We got onto a bit of dual carriageway that was clear so he floored it so I went in the other lane and did the same. I was level with him right through 2nd and 3rd gear, but once I got into 4th and 5th I absolutely stormed past going up to just a tad over 135mph. Got to the end and started slowing for the roundabout and he pulled along side and gave me the thumbs up and was laughing his head off so I did the same.

    The, on the single lane bypass going back to Grimethorpe I was going steady and this Saab was tailgating me, so I slowed down a bit and pulled over for him to overtake. As he came past he flipped me the bird, so I booted it and sat at the side of him so he couldn't get back in. Did that for about 1/4 of a mile, then properly floored it and left him for dead lol.

    This new gearbox is god like. The 0-60 feels the same as before, but whereas it used to do 94mph in 3rd it now does 109mph. 4th gear is insane, it whips round the speedo faster than it does from 2nd to 3rd, taking it to about 130mph then 5th takes it well over 140 lol.

    Its one I built out of a load of bits I had around. Its the bellhousing off the first gearbox I broke, and the gear casing is from a Volvo 440.

    1st gear is 1.2 Clio
    2nd gear is 1.2 Clio
    3rd gear is from my Valver
    4th is Volvo
    5th is Volvo

    The final drive is from a Volvo 460, being a 3.5:1 ratio.

    This means that with the short first 2 gears it still whips round to 60 easy, but the other 3 mean that the top speed is miles higher lol.

    Well apart from going to the 6th form (finished now though till uni) I build Hewland gearboxes for my mates company. 2 of us did a full rebuild of one in 45 minutes last year for the JCB Mk1 GT40 as they'd broke it while getting it on the trailer for Le Mans lol.

    109 in 3rd...lol wot kinda ratio u got in it, my valver does 90'ish in third!

    Look at the diff ratio, a normal Valver is 4.1:1

    The top spec 93 aero is seriously rapid once rolling, 30-70 its quicker than a 911.
