    ECU and Patentionmeter Faults

    Hi,

I've just had my car in to get a diagnostics check and apparently it's come back with a ECU fault and a Patentionmeter fault (Where is this and how du spell it??).

Anyway is it possible to get another ECU, a 16v one which i've seen in a scrap yard and just replace it?

    Thanks for any help

potentiometer mate is on the throttle body, 3 wires go to it and its a little red sensor. easy to swap, difficult to setup or least shud be but i just do it by eye on engine idle

ecu, depends, if ur car is a phase 1 get another phase 1 ecu, if its a phase 2 then also get hold of a phase 1

i rekon it may just be the potentiometer tho so change that first

    whats the actual symptoms?

Here are the codes from the diagnostics:

#2001 Throttle Valve Position Centre short circuiting
    #4020 Conrol Unit Faulty

    The symtoms,
Well it's hunting a little and sometimes takes a while to settle when idling (but just idling a touch fast). The rev counter is definitley reading it a little high and can be eratic - Rev counter seems to be reading it about 1000 to high.

Usually refered to on here as a throttle position sensor (TPS) because thats what it does. As described by coops. about £150 new though. Easy to fit, 2 screws, and ideally calibrated by a renault specialist. I fitted new and also done it by eye & ear. It sounds ok and goes ok.
