i had an oil change about 2 months ago. i was looking at changing from 5w 40 fully synthetic to 10w 40 half synthetic.
do i drain the oil first, or would it do no harm to drop the different oil in?

It won't do any harm, but I am a bit anal about having things done right so personally I'd drain the lot after getting the engine nice and warm, then fill with the 10w 40.
i'd change it properly mate, and the filter. as far as i'm aware you shouldnt really mix grades or types of oil
can i ask why you would want less protection for your engine ?
How so?Originally Posted by BRUN
It's not suggested to mix various kind of oils. Use full-synth 5w-40 or 10-w40, it has better property compared to semi-synth. And change the oil filter, too (genuine Renault filter is highly recommended).
im not convinced that 5w 40 fully synthetic is the weapon of choice for me.
im going to try 10w 40 half synthetic.
I used ELF Competition 10w-40 semi-synth once. I had to change it after 400 kms, it was so bad.Originally Posted by fasterthanjesus

The engine became loud, especially the hydraulic tappets, the oil pressure was low and the oil was hotter than before.Originally Posted by G33R7
