In my country people usually do exactly the oposite - putting 2.0 or GTI or GSI etc. badges on 1.2 and 1.4 engine cars. Yours is better

Yeah that is more common here as well to be honest (Normally because the more expensive models have better styling), but it's to make people think they got beaten by a crap car.

i.e. all show and no go = crap.
no show and stacks of go = a hoot.
