    Hmm... Sequential Gearboxes.

Well after seeing that video of the 106Gti with the 6-speed seqeuntial box and throttle bodies, I fell in love! Looked so quick and easy shifiting gear. I've been in touch with two places, one said they couldn't help me and the other (Quaife) said that they have two boxes, but they are more suited to racing.

Anyway, I looked at the price of these "race" models.... bloody £8k!!! I nearly had a heart attack.

Me and my dad both thought perhaps no more than £3k?

Does anyone have any info or details on if I could get one? Wouldn't be for a good while atm as I have more important things to finish off, but still, nice to know this kinda thing.

    Cheers.

I think the £6k figure is optomistic ~~ not sure, but I think the £6 is just for the gearbox .Coupled to that ( excuse the pun),there are the shafts, the gearchange mechanism, plus a "Flat change" ecu,and the figure goes up drastically.
Ring Steve Wauby and ask how much in TOTAL for a Sadev sequential, supplied and fitted to your Williams :P :P
The "197 Cup" racers use them,~~ will they not fit.Although I expect they will not be cheap.Sequentials for most rally cars Mk II Escorts etc, are around the £6k mark
Did that 106 have a sequential ??,I know it was on a straight cut box ~~ or it sounded like it was.

OOP's I stand corrected ~~ It is obviously a sequential ~~~ did not look close enough first time

Straight cuts ~~ these are as described ~~ straight cut ~~~ Normal gearboxes have what is known as Helical gears, whilst they are more than adequate for road use, they give helical engagement ,because they are made to be quiet when meshing ~ in normal use,but due to the helical design, they lose out out with high power outputs, and with rapid changes ~~ Straight cuts are very noisy ~~ hence the whining in the 106 vid .Not a problem, with short journeys, but very tiring etc on a long run. They give a more positive drive, and engagement.and stand a fair bit more abuse ,~~ clutchless changes etc.
TBH unless you got pots of money ,or are contemplating serious competition, they are a very expensive luxury ~~ But I would get one if funds allowed .
My mate runs a Quaife 6 speed sequential in his Escort Rally car,he has it checked/rebuilt after every 6 events Preventative maintenance ~~ it is called.

    That gearbox sounds sweet.

That explains the Touring Car sound that you get from an in car camera on Touring Cars, the gearbox is the noise (whining).

Something I always wanted to know, i.e what the whining noise was.
