    radiator fan

right found the fault with my radiator fan not working, it was the two wires at the radiator switch had split so i took the car to a auto electronics place and had them conect the wires back up.
so when i got home i left the car running and it got the 4th major mark on the gauge so i turned it off the guy said the fan does work as he tested it but it doesnt seem to be working as its not kicking in.

where on the pic does the fan actually kick in? highest ive had it go is the 4th mark is that to high? arg getting anoying this is cost me 35 bloody quid.

standard fans should kick in at the second large knotch or the 11oclock position.

If you run a uprated switch its around where your needle is now.

Common fault is the wiring to corrode and snap off on the temp switch.

The next major line above the needles current position is when the fan should cut in.

When it's pointing directly at the thermometer icon or any point beyond that.

and we have cooling, kicks in as said just after 4th notch was a joy to hear it doing its thing.

bristolsam by the sounds of things you have fan problems to check the switch wires on the side of the radiator thats where mine died.

While this picture is on, Ive been wanting to post this for ages.

How high does your temp gauge in summer go if your sat in traffic for a long long time, i.e 10mins stationary without moving. Anyone?

Mine will usually go nearly to the 2nd notch above the needle on that pic.

    Is this ok?

I usually end up whacking the heaters on full whack to draw the hot air out of the bay, which does work because im frightened of it overheating!

It never ever goes that hot in winter just summer.

think thats to hot matey as has been said the fan should come on just after the big notch after the needle from the pic dont know exactly what happens when it does overheat but it cant be good. check your wires and see if the fan works.
