drive shaft and thermostat

some of you may have read in a previous post i was having trouble remving the rollpin . In the end i had to cut the gaiter and get it out that way :( . My question is the rollpin doesnt seem to be moving, is it possible that when i put the engine back in i can conect the drive shaft and put new gaiter on when in car?

also which way around does the thermostat go in to the engine block

yes but better to drill roll pin out if you can. thermostat with the spring inside the head.

right ive spent hours on this dam roll pin, gone through a number of drill bits etc.

Ive tried everything. would it be hard to just fit the engine and refit a new gaiter which ive cut to remove engine.

any help would be great thanks
