big puddle + williams = ill williams. help

    Hi Guys

Got a slight problem was off to see my folks in hertfordshire today when went through what appeared small flood which was not. Kept the car going through it just about and everything seemed fine. when was just starting on way back home earlier seems like the some times only running on 3 cylinders plus when at higher revs. loosing power (making a kinda chuffing noise) epecially when at 70 80 in 5th gear because it is dark gonna leave it till the morning has anybody got any ideas of what should check etc. appart from the obvious ht leads, and plugs. bizarly at idle when engine is ticking over everything seems fine. all help would be very much appreciated as need to get home for new years eve

does sound like the plugs are wet. Pull the plug leads off while the car is running to identify whch cylinder is down, obviously there will be no change in the engine noise when you have unplugged the wet one. Give the lead and plug well a good dry out with an air line and a bit of tissue.

Hooligan had the same problem on his when he left the bonnet off and it rained.

My mate has just got his Golf R32 back, having had a new engine fitted. He wanted to give the four-wheel drive a pasting, by launching the car in a massive puddle, but ended up giving the engine a pasting instead! Cost the insurers about £5k :P

And I did a rally stage special in a GTi-6 a while ago... new engine required then too
