Is my car running too rich? or is this normal?

It depends what sort of use the car gets. If its mainly used on shortish journeys then they will always have larger soot deposits in the exhaust.

Mine is black at the moment, but a days rallying or on track and it will be back to light orange if I use the Millers CVL. If no octane boosters it will be grey.
