    Unsprung Weight?

    Hi Guys and Girls

I have been looking into the advantages of some light weight wheels for track and just wondered has anybody tried a light weight and standard willy wheels and found that the less weight makes a difference to handling and general performance etc.. if so was it worth the cost? My track set are a standard set of williams speedlines. Any opinions would be appreciated. sorry if this has been discussed before but could not find anything.

Standard willy wheels are 7 kgs. The same as the racing magnesium speedlines of the same shape. Youd have to get some supper leggeras to really make any saving on that or maybe some pro 1.2's.

Not much out there that is lighter to be honest.

Have you weighed them Rob? The pro race are 6.something kg's so not much of a saving. OZ Ultraleggeras are 5.0kgs a corner ....

I've got the ultraleggeras and after using the std ph2 rims noticed a slight differance, just seems alot quicker turn-in and a sharper feel.

However not sur what the wheels did as the tyres on the ph2 were crap, on the OZ's got some Toyo's that seem great!

yeah phase 2's and turdbines suck. but needs must sometimes.

im soooo glad i got myself another set of williams wheel to use on track.

remember that the wheel weights are without the tyre or air, so dont mean fook all in reality.
