I got nicknamed Merv at school, as my surnames Hughes. It dies off for a few years but later there was a group of us with 2 mikes. Someone remembered my old name to save confusion and then it really stuck!

I got the nickname Gunner when we were on exercise against the Army. I was told tol get gods weapon going, needless to say, i came out from behind a wall, mounted the gmpg on another wall.. and fired a belt of 200 rounds at the troops all huddled together coming out of a house..
an awesome feeling... the feeling of iron and steel the sound and the cheese factor the GPMG gives you.
since then the nikname has stuck.
