    lose steering

    Right the steering is lose on my vavler :(
    It has about 3 or 4 cm of play before it does anything, i can hear bubbles in the system so im guessing the powerstearing needs topping up or changing but could it also need a new rack ??

    Or what other common problems could it be ta

    Weld the steering column at the vibration damping joint? :D

    don't really want to have all the vibrations coming up the wheel :(
    i like the nice vibration less ssteeringldon't

    Mine is welded and i get no vibration. Reno prob used a damper on the column cos they couldnt be arsed to make a damperless one for the willy. Rally cars had no dampers on column, they were welded as far as i know.

    will that deffo cure the play in the steering tho ??
    As atm it works fine just has loads of play i.e 3 or 4cm movement before it starts to turn

    Wayne had this problem on his valver, he bought a new column... either that or a weld by the sounds of it. isn't it worse tho if a welded one goes

    If the colum is worn it will be at the damper joint. If its the rack (less likely) it will be at the rack / column pinion join.

    Get in the foot well and pull back the carpet where the pedals are you will see the damper join on the column. There is a rubber gaitor over it. Pull this back to reveal the join. Move the steering wheel and fell with a hand whether the top join rotates in the bottom female section as you move the wheel.thats where you weld it.

    M = upper male part
    F = Lower female part
    1 = Rotation
    2 = Rubber anti vibration packaging worn from here
    3 = Weld here

    I just bought a new column from Renault £124.12 + vat = £145.84 thats trade price, only 10% trade at Main dealers though
