WTF is that then? My front top suspension bush is knacked apparently, but I can't see what that is looking at Haynes.
Looks like s susp. refurb might be sooner than expected as my n/s strut is leaking. Still, 125k on the original items ain't bad.
Big rubber bit that goes between the spring top hat and the underside of the suspension turret

Still can't see it in Haynes. You got a pic? How easy to change? Looks like a piece of piss.
To change whip strut out, compress spring, remover circlip/nut at top of strut, remove strut top assembly, replace bush etc.
IIRC they come in a complete strut top kit from reno.
Got a couple i can dig up in the garage if you want a pic

you don't need to compress the springs, the just pop on top of the strut, http://photobucket.com/albums/f360/Clio16v-widetrack/?action=view¤t=doughnut.jpg
its the biggest bit in the kit, piece of piss to fit :D
The bearings that hold it on are under the circlip/nut,. if you don't compress the spring, release that and the spring will shoot off

WTF you smoking boy, i've just changed two of them, and you deffinately don't need to compress the spring, the doughnut sits ontop of the whole strut assembly, theres nothing ontop of it. the strut nut sits in the middle of the doughnutt, not ontop.
Not on teh orignal ones i've just dismantled.
You have the strut top plate, you then ahve a bearing that sits on top of that, you then ahve the rubber bush, and another smaller bearing, and then the nut/circlip holds that down onot the top of the strut
The pic you posted up shows that if you look at at, top plate, larger bearing, rubber bush, small bearing, nut, strut top, strut top cover

if you are running std springs then u will need to compress them down as if u take the nut/circlip off you wil get a face full of strut top! and it will hurt, the part you are on about swerve is the big rubber doenut at the top with a bearing it sits on

that must be the old design then, as the ones i've just done are much simpler, the nut holds the spring compressed, then the doughnutt sits ontop
nope lol, mine are brand new! its spring/spring cap/bearing/doenut with spacer in middle then nut, can garentuee that!
same for any clio inc mk2 which run same set up

  Literally a couple of weeks ago i renewed all my suspension for willy stuff with new strut tops the lot and its deffo as i described, the doughnut sits ontop of EVERYTHING

Look at the pic i posted, it goes bearing, doughnut, nut, but if you look the nut is smaller than the hole in the doughnut, so it can go on last
thats were u are wrong, the doenut has a spacer that fits into it, then the nut which holds it all down, which means urs is missing a bit!
if u look at the pic up there^^^ part 8 the nut, sits on top of part 6 the spacer!

   WTF are they needed ?
yes lol the nut holds it all down so that the doenut sits onto the bearing properly and holds it nicely together!

:P
Nice one lads. Haynes mentions nothing about that construction. Useless nobbers.
I'll be getting all new struts anyway since one is leaking so looks like I'll have to get some spring compressors.
Does anyone reckon it'll be worth getting new springs and bushes? I'm going to check them this w/e anyway but I have no past receipts to suggest that they aren't the original items anyway.
Thinking I might as well do a full refurb.
You know it makes sense :P
sorry to be a doofus but the kit you get from reno is that 25 quid for one complete set or for the pair?
Its per kit
Springs are around £70+VAT
