View Full Version : Exhaust system sizes
What's the most popular bore size for exhaust system on a fairly hot Williams (220-230bhp mark)
Anyone had the fortune to try different sizes?
What size you using on yours Stan?....

Depends whether its n/a or turbo. If its turbo I would go for a 3" system at least, n/a probably 2.5-2.75".
See ya

no more than 2.5 " NA as you'll need a bit of back pressure, Forced induction - anything reasonable aslong as its not too big 3" max i'd say
Sorry, I wasn't that clear. It's for a NA.
Thinking along the 2 1/4" route, wanted to do some simulation first to give me a clearer understanding of mass air flow and then work around that etc. But I bought the car with a after market system and it's doin my nut, so gotta change it soon!

Most of the aftermarket systems are 2.25", the magnex etc
for that sort of power 2.5" is probably better
i had a 4" powerflow one, to loud, to chavvy, now i hve a nice small magnex one off matt brown, not to sure how big 2" or somethink like that

You're talking about tailpipes right lol
4'' bore might be ok for a skyline but no a clio!

Haha. We were speaking about the pipe diameter of the system not the tailpipe. Normally 2-2.5inch! The tailpipe has very little effect over backpressure of the system - unless its huge and there are no baffles!
 sorry lads, my mistake
hehe, easy mistake! its all most folk talk about is the tailpipe.
tru! system diameter mostly comes into effect with LARGE horses under the bonnet and quite an abundance of them!! :D
