View Full Version : Wilwood Problems
....Fitted them, and they're now making all sorts of nasty scrapping noises, sounds like the pads are made of tiny stones
It's ok when cold, but as soon as heat gets into them, they scrap like ****. And squeak a lot too. Not nice.
My mate has checked everything over to see if something is expanding and making contact, but nothing seems to be unduly close. And there doesn't seem to be any scoring on the discs either :?
I knew I should have kept it standard. Modifying
lol you do have pads in there ?
I'd go back to stnd and give the defective wilwoods to me...
Are you sure you want them? They don't slow the car down very well as they are!
I'm going to be away for the next couple of days, but if anyone could tell me how to fix my brakes in the mean time, I'd be very grateful :D
...otherwise Martin could have some Wilwoods heading his way
check that the caliper is mounted straight against the disk mate.
measure the distance top an bottom from caliper to inside disk & caliper to outside disk.
Make sure the measurement is the same top and bottom.
In the worse case the pads might be making contact at the top and not at all at the bottom.
Are you using the poly e pads ????
Is it definalty the fronts that are making noise ???
The braking will be crap wtill the pads are bedded in anyways
zollo mine was the same when i got them, once there fully bedded in and been thrashed on track they will stop! mine now only sqeek if i brake lightly on normal road use, when hot no noise at all(usually)

Yep, Poly E pads, and definately the fronts that are making the noise. I'm going to take the pads off and check everything, so will see if somethings up.
I'll really don't think it's just the pads bedding in, because it's a really, really nasty sound. Not so much squeaking, but proper metal scrapping, like the pads have nothing left on them. Or is that really how they sound/feel when bedding in? :?
i thought the same zollo, wasnt just brake squeel but a grinding kinda noise it will go once they bed in fully!! trust me lol
Well in that case, that's some nasty running-in shit! Will go and rack up some miles then. Cheers 8)
zollo whats ur wilwood part no? 120-4805?
sorry i meant that code, thats great mate taa
Well in that case, that's some nasty running-in s**t! Will go and rack up some miles then. Cheers 8)
lol i thought the same, stripped them down and re-checked it all, still same untill they bedded in !! owell got my 2nd set of pads to bed in after cadwell! 4 trackdays isnt bad lol
No probs Jamie :)

Only four track days! I thought they'd last a bit longer than that
How much were the pads mate?
£50 for the set, when i say 4trackdays i dont mean there to metal yet, but i prefer not to risk having no brakes lol!
Well, that's 140 miles and they're still scrapping away, though not as bad before. Power is improving too, the brake feel is great and the pedal sensitivity is the same as standard.
Well happy with them 8) ... so long as the scrapping stops eventually.
I need some! :(
ditto, funds are limited atm tho.
Hoepfully getting a template for the mounting brackets, so can churn them out for people if they wanna buy the rest of the kit
