View Full Version : Clio Williams Springs
Hi, my Williams One No.167 has got a broken front spring. The cheapest price i could get from Renult is around £90, that includes VAT.
I have used the search function and some people say they are the same as 16V springs and 172 springs! Basicallly I want to find a cheaper alternative where i can get springs from in the next week.
Out of interest the shocks are KYB.
Thanks.
springs are the same as 16v and 172 yes mate
So if i buy some for a 16 V from a local motorfactor they will be the same length, diameter and importantly poundage?
Not sure about the springs.
But I have had KYB and DeCarbon shocks on mine. I think Gabrielle are also among the OEM shocks that Renault source for the Williams.
So if i buy some for a 16 V from a local motorfactor they will be the same length, diameter and importantly poundage?
yup

Aren't Williams springs stiffer than 16v springs?

16v and williams are the same but i wouldn't trust the ones from a motor factors to be the same as Renault.
Mat.

agreed there, the reno genuine parts should be the same pretty much, but non gen stuff unless customly made for u is usually pants!
it would be cheaper to get a set made up for yourself to any spec u want, but i couldnt see u getting them within a week or whenever it is u need
I agree with Mat too. I had a set of springs fitted by a local garage and they were completely wrong (ride height and poundage), even though they guaranteed they were right
I've got some 172 springs on there now, and although the ride height is correct, I have my reservations about them being the same poundage. Feel a bit stiff to me.
what are the colour markings on your springs ?

Good point. White markings are supposed to be for the Williams, right? There's a Dutch online catalogue that also mentions springs (not from Renault, but manufactured by Suplex) to replace the OE springs with green markings. Those springs are more expensive than the ones that replace the OE springs with white markings. I had the Suplex ones that replace the OE springs with white markings, but after a while it was like I had bought lowering springs, because the front of the car had dropped about 3 cm. Looked nice, but drove like... Therefore I bought real lowering springs instead. But I'm thinking about buying original springs again, so I need to be sure which ones to get.
Double White markings is what are used on the Williams.
Yes two white dots or stripes.
Does anyone know the excact stiffness of the std Willy springs in lbs?
125 lbs for stock springs.
125 lbs for stock springs.
yup, std as above, im running 200lb now

That's soft!!!!
I think most people would recomend 200-220 lbs...
How many lbs is usually a helper spring on a coilover?
