On tickover the engine makes a taping noise which is probably the tappets need tightening but I'm not sure as this noise doesnt seem 2 dissapear even when the engines warmed up.

I am also concerned about the oil pressure, on start up it reads around 3 then it drops and never really moves from 2 and if in traffic it can drop to 1 or even 0.

When i start the car from cold the engine is VERY stuttery for the first 5minutes, this seems to be common but is there a way to fix this?

If anyone could help it would be most appreciated.

Oil pressure is normal. It will drop as it gets hot.

Try using a mineral oil to quieten the tappets. Seems to work for a few on here. I had some Forte Top End treatment put in instead. I assume it's a thick substance.

How much does it cost and where can I get some, did it work for you then?

forte top end treatment is circa 15 quid. bought some for same problem, didnt sort it, or even quieten tappets at all. waste of money IMO. better spending the 15 quid on an oil and filter change, and get some decent oil. thats wot i need to do!!!! :)

Weird. Worked a treat on mine. Takes a while to work though, as it doesn't quieten them straight away.

Im taking me car in to town in a bit to get an oil change at national tyres - duckhams qxr 10w40 - can anyone reccommend this? £16 for oil and filter change which I thought weren't bad.

Get a full mineral oil. A few on here seem to rate Halfords own brand.

yup i replaced my oil with halfords 10 40 mineral oil, comes in orange container, no tapping ever again lol....just thrash it as much from cold, the hotter the oil the more viscous it becomes.

Took me motor 2 national tyre and exhausts yesterday for an oil change. After waitin for an hour and a half and the engine being flushed, they put it up on the ramps but then they tell me they havn't got enough time to change the oil filter cos they have 2 take the radiator off to get to it or some shit like that, so they ended up changing the oil but not the filters, they done it for free and the tapping noise has gone and it feels a lot smoother!

Is it really that much of a pain to get to the oil filter or were they just mugs??

it is a pain but the radiator definitely does NOT have to come off

The Halfrauds ones come with the Hex nut moulded on the top. So getting it off is even easier. Go from underneath with a ring spanner and bob's yer uncle.

The only pain is trying to clean up the spilt oil!! That you can't get to without some serious bendy wrist shit going on.
