I have a 1995 Williams 2.

Everything on the car is stock.

The issue I have is that the car only revs to 4,600 revs and then the rev limiter kicks in. I have taken it to 2 garages (not Renault or Clio specialists) and they cannot find the fault.

Has anyone ever had the same issue and did you manage to get it resolved or can any of you kind knowledge people point me in the right direction please?.

many thanks a low revving Harry

Ahh is this the issue you wanted to get a diagnostics on?

Did the garages try unbolting the exhaust from the downpipe? This is symptomatic of a blocked exhaust. The insides of the silencer/s collapse and limit the revs.

This is not something I had considered.
Diagnostic being done Thursday, if no errors are found this will be my next move.

Thank you

Is it just the rev counter at fault as this is a known fault?

The car is hitting the rev limiter as it should but the rev counter is only reading 4,600rpm?

This is not something I have considered. How would I know if the rev counter is faulty?

If you record the rev counter for us and rev it up for us to hear after the engine warms up, we can tell you.

See if they can unbolt the catalytic converter and then try revving it normally.
