For sale on Piston Heads December 2015

£7000

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/renault/clio/renault-clio-16v-williams-no-379----------------1994/4985379

It is time for the Clio to go, No. 379 of 400. This car is in fantastic condition following a 4 year renovation and lots of blood sweat and tears.

The car has 113,000 miles on the clock, and I'm currently running her around to make sure everything is working as it should be.

This car is 100% original except for a custom built stainless steel exhaust (OEM spec). I hate rust so didn't want another renault one.

So whats been done and why?

Well four years ago I decided to repair the heater and replace the rear brakes, unfortunately I opened pandora's box. It turns out that French cars rust a little bit! (who knew?) So I decided to take it all apart and put it back together again. Here is the list:

New Heater
New rear shocks
New rear brake calipers
New rear brake pads & discs
Refurbished rear beam
both rear rear chassis fully repaired
Rear floor re-sealed and painted
Both rear arches cut out and replaced
Sills cut out and repaired
Front brake pads and discs
refreshed suspension arms
Powder coated subframe
Gearbox stripped, new bearings and seals
New Clutch
New Cambelt, oil filter and plugs
full respray
4 x Toyo Proxies

The car has just had an MOT and a whole host of other small sundries to make sure it all works.

This is the best Clio Williams (1) for sale. I know that because there aren't any others. Its probably the only Clio on the market that doesn't have any rust on it either!

So whats wrong with it? nothing. The wheels need a refurb which I will sort out for the lucky buyer. I also think the door cards could be better, they look a little worn. If I find any over the next couple of weeks I will change them, but stuff for this car is not easy to find!

Any questions please let me know. No silly offers either, a lot of work has gone into this its worth every penny!

Hi pal. Both my Williams have engine numbers on the log books. Strange to have that comment. Is the car a cat c or d? Is as though the car has had a check by dvla at some point otherwise why would it have been removed from log book? I suppose you could just add the engine number via dvla. Have you hpi'd the car? That usually gives the engine number.

daljk
23-12-2015, 06:15
HPI is clear, came back with nothing, just engine number unknown, didn't expect to see that on the logbook as well!
The car physically has had a full body resto, just a couple of issues regarding the interior that can be sorted easily
Cause for concern?

I don't think so, it wouldn't put me off. It depends what your plans and are with the car.

The Renault System doesn't show engine numbers now mate. It did last time I checked a VIN number.

I wanted the oval plate for the VIN number.

anyone actually know where the engine number is on the block?

northy

it is to the right of the dip stick on the front of the engine. Nearest the gearbox side. If you take off the air box you should get a good view.

IT'S JUST ENVY, or love.

It can happen in the lowliest of vehicles, when they have one, or more particularly two, things in common...

In fact I'd say that Elise was totally smitten.

As my alarm is set for 5.59 I think everyone should be up at 6, and as far as alarm clocks go, I'd say a grumpy old V8 was pretty good.

Cable for the clutch or even the pedal. Changing the PAS fluid for Slik50 made a load of difference to the steering for me - does it shriek at each end of the travel?

The wayward steering COULD BE a worn rubber bush in the column, had to do this fix on both my Williams... the problem is as much age related as mileage.

Solution is to replace the column or adopt the poverty fix which is to weld it up.

The boot strips are well known to fade, mine is the same. Originally when new they are a very dark grey/black, like the scuttle panel under the windscreen. These fade bad to but your looks fine from the pics. Search on the forum, various people have refurbished them.

Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade, its been a while now since I used the music system in the Williams, but I do remember it was not exactly a top sounding system. How much have these speakers improved the sound.
If the system before was ??/10 what does the system score now?

daljk
29-10-2016, 10:31
Sounds ok
You're not going to get amazing sound from such small speakers. The old ones were made of paper and torn so of no use. The connectors were an issue but managed to get them on eBay
So from 0/10 I would say I'm at a 6.5
I'm still looking for something better though
The W3 is much better due to the larger door speakers

what dashboard lamps are out, are they on the main dials? they're fairly easy to replace if so.. steering cowel and top dash off and a few bolts to loosen the dials.. pull them forward, take off the cables if needed and untwist the little black bits to free the lamp.. then replace with new ones.. do you have a haynes manual.. or is it simply a case of time.. i reckon u could have it done in a few hours max, even for your first attempt..
the other tree dials are a little harder as they are an arse to get out if i remember correctly..
