Seen the one on pistonheads although £7k seems a little steep for one with very little service history. Also prefer a right hand drive or the one on ebay would have been perfect.

Thanks for the info though.

Have to say mate go on condition not on history
Are you buying to enjoy for yourself or to sell to someone else?
I spoke to the chap selling the one on piston heads and it sounds like a pucker car

I'm going to have to disagree with the above statement. If I was looking to buy at the moment, I'd be looking at history and condition. I'd want to know that a car I'm prepared to pay 5-6k + for has been looked after service wise and also a car that has a good history, I've found, has usually been cherished and well looked after in general. Before I bought my williams I looked at over half a dozen, and the 1's with a large amount of bills receipts etc were usually better cars overall.

I am looking a car for myself to either restore or just park up and use on the odd summers day. I agree with the last statement that history is key to prove how a car has been looked after. I would rather pay £7k for a car with 150k and excellent history than £5k for a car with 60k and no history.

Fully understand what your saying guys
Just I've seen so many rust buckets, even one at a classic car dealer who said it was the best one he had having sold 5 this year alone and honestly it was awful
You're right good history and condition if you find one then great but that is not going to be cheap now
The one at the dealer I saw had a big file
The file was lovely
Only the car was crap

Personally I ignore any kind of service history as it's mostly just useless waffle, it's only real use is to find out how long ago a cambelt was done & that's about it

And then you see it was done by General Custer down the railway arches with a seeing eye dog and a bottle of Tipp-ex and feel even more paranoid about it than you would have if there wasn't a history at all.

The last 2 mk1's I've bought, I was given a load of history & paperwork for them, had a quick look then threw it all in the bin. Started from scratch & done every possible bit of work needed myself just from looking at the condition of everything & how the car drove & felt.

Has anyone actually taken the time to properly look through the history/receipts their car has & seen how much of it is actually relevent or useful? It's comical how much of it is of any use, it actually annoys me that so many people are so hung up about a load of information that is essentially useless.

The most recent car I bought made me laugh, they guy I was buying it from was having a mardy about me refusing to pay more as he was harping on about how it had recently had a major service including all belts, coolant & oil etc, showing me the receipts of how much it cost & how recently it was done..................the car had massive head gasket failure :headbutt:

Million plus Ferraris restored in the best Italian workshops often come with proof of title and nothing else on paper.

For tax purposes.

You might well bend it round a lamppost driving it home anyway.
