Ignition on or off? I've forgot which way round it works but there's 2 fan switches, 1 on the rad and the other on the thermostat housing. One of them is for when the ignition is on & the other for when it's off, both work off the same relay

Put 12v directly to the fan to make sure that actually works 1st

ignition off.. as i presumed that it was just the switch on the rad which controlled the fan.. and that seems to continue to go when its hot n the car is off.. ill try and hunt the other switch down tomoz..

ill try the direct fan approach too and report back..

Easy to find, it's the sensor on the stat housing pointing towards the back of the car, bridge the connections in the plug with the ignition on and off & you'll know which way round they work but iirc the switch in the fan is for when the engine is running - so for when you're in traffic and the switch in the stat housing is for when you turn the engine off & it also kicks in the aux water pump

all sorted now... after abit of testing turned out it the thick red cable connection had come undone from the brown block of connectors under the relays in the box by the battery.. it had come loose and wasn't making contact.. new connector fitted and she lives and keeps cool once again! ta for the direction paddy.. always a help!
