Most authentic time warp you will ever see. Looking for real enthusiast or collector. This car belongs in a museum or with someone who really appreciates it for what it is. Probably the most expensive Clio Williams out there but there is no better car in original condition. Willing to let anyone in the know authenticate this car for originality. This car is more expensive than it was new but you find another one like it anywhere with a better story attached to it. It has never been in the rain, just as good underneath as it is on top. If you know of someone who has the funds and wants the right car then this is it. Serious buyers only please email.

A couple more pics as requested. Weights on the wheels - that's the way it came from the dealership from new. The log book shows it has no former keepers.

Is it your car? I appreciate you dont want timewasters but I'm know we'd all be interested to find out more

Nice to see something like this still exists, you have some nice motors in that garage..to price it in my opinion would be of a comparable car today as £13000 which I think they were new back in 1994 is more like £20000 today, I think 15k would be a fair appraisal personally considering the milage/ condition and uniqueness. Finding a regular joe with mortgage and kids with 15k spare and an agreeable wife might be difficult though. A few people with loads of cash have appeared on here though and I'd say you will get the money if you wait for the right person. Certainly an investment.

Very poor write up in my opinion, and I can't see it making the estimated price either tbh. Say I'm wrong but, I just don't think it will.

22-08-2015, 14:22
Might be wrong but I can't see anybody paying over 10k. It will probably be worth 15k to somebody out there but I'm betting it's a very very small percentage.

This "It's a 2" bollocks makes me laugh - there is simply not enough of them left to be picky these days - and it didn't matter years ago either

I'd rather being driving a nice 2 or 3 than waiting for the "1"...

They also had to pay buyer's premium on top of the hammer price. Everyone else is scurrying to clean the mould off their Clios rotting away in garages countrywide.

But they are also selling a Porsche 924 for 45 grand. I don't care if it's a one off special with a gear knob made of solid gold, it's still a Porsche 924.

I also think it's a bit rich calling it a limited edition. On that basis the VW Beetle was a limited edition, given that they've stopped making them now.

Daz.
06-10-2015, 13:00
Anyone who has the cash and wants one to put in their collection without any fuss will buy it. The kind of person that doesn't even notice the price - it's just a set of numbers...

Slanderers of the price are just pissed off they don't have that kind of disposable cash as any 3k barge is never going to get to that kind of quality.

Ayli Carper
06-10-2015, 14:44
I don't think there's anyone here slandering the price, more a slightly awed pause for thought. It's probably a good thing that it'll be salted away in a heated garage and put on less than 200 miles a year. Cars like this form a database of originality that will help restorers of 3k barges in the future and stimulate interest (and money) from a different demographic of potential future owners, which is of benefit to everyone (probably).

I think it's great that this little souped up shopping car can accommodate sub £1000 cars on a wing and a rusty prayer to be used as track day cars as well as trailered concours show queens. But I know which I'd rather have.

06-10-2015, 21:23
Out of curiosity, and for comparison purposes, does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to do a proper nut and bolt resto on a Clio from a 3k clio, I don't mean a spray over and a valet - bare metal, engine rebuilt, replace all perishables, trim - to make it look like this (and possibly drive a bit better although you wouldn't have the kudos of the low milage) ... ?

PhilW
06-10-2015, 21:56
The problem that I think you could have Bob, is that its all the trim and perishables that are tricky to get hold of now, with a lot of parts no longer available from Renault. However for a full nut and bolt resto done on the cheap (with you doing all the non/semi skilled work) you could easy blow £6k - £7k if you did it properly.
It would be easy to go way over that if you handed it over to a restorer to complete.
Dont do it.............

It looks like a really nice car.
just found it funny looking at the images, that in less than 6k someone has still managed to kerb the front alloy 😕

16v_paddy
06-10-2015, 22:07
It would depend on how much of it you did yourself and what trim you needed to replace as some of the trim parts are no longer available to buy.

I took my track car back to bare metal & built it back up from almost scratch, the cost wasn't a lot as but the amount of hours put into it by myself was huge and as a lot of stuff didn't go back into the car, the time it'd take to get a fully restored road going car back together would probably be double.

But with this as the starting point before spending any money & loosely estimated based on what I've spent

http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq165/16v_paddy/Race%20car%20build/Ready%20for%20blasting_zpsj4tdhtad.jpg

Sand blasting back to bare metal was £200 - guy came out to my mates workshop
Cost of materials to get car fully in 2 pack primer inside & out about £200 with me & a mate doing all the work
Paint - cheapest 2 pack paint was white - inside & out cost £300 with me & a mate doing 95% of the prep work

For a pro to do all of the paint in correct colour etc I wouldn't be shocked or surprised to see a bill of at least £3k

Subframe overhaul with new nuts, bolts, washers, bushes etc along with everything else blasted & powdercoated about £250, evenmore if you go for new steering rack etc
Suspension parts would cost somewhere in the region of £300-400 for new everything
Gearbox rebuild is about £300-400 depending who you use
Engine rebuid, I'd budget about £500 or so for parts plus whatever labour rates your preferred builder charges

haha, makes 21,995 look like good value!

07-10-2015, 00:45
Well, as a guide for a full restore, there are receipts for well into five figures for everything that was done to 0425. And that didn't include the mechanical labour either.... Gulp!

katbloke
07-10-2015, 06:24
Paddy its like wheeler dealers they show the profit but don't factor in the labour times

PhilW
07-10-2015, 07:14
When you look at Paddys cost breakdown, you have to bear in mind that he started off with a solid rust free shell, most people wont be in that position. Fixing corrosion issues properly gets expensive, but if you tart up a rusty shell, youre wasting your time.
Unless you are flipping a car for a profit, then thats the only way to go.

Daz.
07-10-2015, 09:01
Thing is you could spend 100k on a nut bolt restoration and I'd still take this one over that - you can only be original once.

Ayli Carper

... which is why the 3k barge is a nicer car. The person who kerbed that alloy probably still wakes up screaming at three o'clock in the morning.

It's great that these things exist (and there's at least one first series car on this website in similar condition but which has NO kerbed alloys), but please get out there and drive the car. You can't drive this car in the way it's meant to be driven any more.

Full restoration wise, I'm now on nearly 12K (with a purchase price of 1900) and maybe a little over with stuff I've forgotten to add to the total.

Mine will be used (in the dry) and driven as it should be.

What I will say is that these jumps in value make it easier to get the car insured for a guaranteed value that actually means you won't loose out financially if the worst happens. A serious point is security though. Garage locks, drive posts and GPS Tracked Thatcham CAT1's are a must.
As for driving in the snow...the F1 is just awful, but the Sportage does great 4wd power slides (when the wife isn't in the car :firedevil:)

I drove my Williams in very heavy snow from work once, took 8 hours. The Clio romped through, passing all these new 50 ton lardwagon 4x4's with ease, as they slid down hills uncontrollably and crashed into ditches :)
