Well i have been a busy bee recently. For those of you that dont read my project thread i have had a little bit of fun fabricating a F4R manifold (from a clio 172) to fit my F7R. I believe that I am the first person to do it. I know a couple of people had started to do it but didn’t follow it through because of the amount of work involved. I hope that this is going to be a decent upgrade to the standard valver manifold and downpipe as well as the Williams item and the aftermarket Supersprint item. Also this hasn’t cost me too much money to make just a lot of my time!

I had the inside face (gasket face) fusion welded to teh flange to allow no leakages so then i had to file the welds flat just to stop the exhaust from having poor flow.

Does it physically fit does it not catch anywhere? would a 182 one have been better?

Anyone answer the above ?

It physically fits in a mk2 shell not sure on the mk1

182 manifold would be better but i didnt want to try it out on that as 172 manifolds are pennies

Well I went to Surrey rolling road saturday a few members off of cliosport and clio16valver.

The spec of my car is as follows:

Standard 72000 mile F7R
Custom made 172 manifold
Ktec decat twin lambda one
Ktec silenced stealth
172 airbox with piper cross race filter
Non pas conversion

It made 171.1 with standard ecu and then 177.2 with the chipped ecu. It does look like on the last run he backed off before the limiter of 7000 ( probably find make any more power after that)

Standard cams?

Standard cams, the whole engine is standard apart from the bits mentioned above.

That is a great result.

Crikey, good work. just to echo what evogone said and to add to it.... now you've potentially proved the benefits are you going to look into doing a 182 manifold? i have a supersprint with the obvious advantages being the whole 4-2-1 setup that the 182 would give you as well... just curious. :D

182 exhaust manifold is even better than 172 one, so gains would be even larger. But I think that 182 manifold would be quite hard to fit to Mk1, because of little space between subframe and exhaust tunel.

i knew space was the big issue. is the 182 one significantly bigger then?

Isn't the blue/black curves standard ecu and red chipped ? so he pulled to 7000 with chipped ecu and to about 6300 standard ??

182 is longer, 4-2-1 design, where 172 one is 4-1. 182 manifold is very similar to Clio Maxi manifold.

The result is very impresive!
Do you have any pics of your enginebay, I'm interested on how the 172 airbox fits.

What chip did you have? Was it the gunner chip.

Thats correct mate yes.

All pictures of the build can be found here and you dont have to be a member.

Dont think so mate as it only pulls to 7000. I have a reciept for the chip it was installed on the engine i have in 1994 so it must be an ok one!

Thanks chris I have the super sprint on there and I think it's comparible, superchips used to do a remapped chip if I remember and maybe it's that one you have, that's a huge gain in fairness and very cost efficient versus a similar gain with cams.

Hi Squeak, i have just finished reading your entire thread on http://www.clio16valver.co.uk (http://www.clio16valver.co.uk/) and im not entirely sure why you choose to use the F7R, but the project is great, and the detail in your posts are excellent. =D>=D>

I just wanted to ask about the engine you used...did you have a power reading before and after, was it a standard engine ( i have read your spec list a few times but still don't understand how you managed 177.2bhp and what looks like a high torque figure) did you find out what chip you are using? And also, if the engine was standard before you fitted the chip and the manifold, does that mean the manifold alone gave you an increase of 20bhp??? sorry if i have missed something but i have been looking, but i don't seem to be able to work it out by what you have posted in the thread

Thanks =D>

The engine is just a freak, no other explanation for it, he just got lucky
