hi all i can move my steering wheel both ways a little bit before anything happens with the steering. up until april it had been 5 years since i had driven her so cant remember what it was like then but its not good when going 70  on a duel carriageway due to feeling like ive got no control when this happens. is there any way to get rid of this ??? it passed the mot about 3 weeks ago so cant be too serious but i would like it sorted.. any help would be great

Common cause of that problem is play in the bottom of the steering column caused by a bit of rubber wearing out. There's 2 ways of fixing it, 1 is a new column and the other is to get that bit of the column welded up, pretty sure there's a guide on her or C16v with pics etc

9 times out of 10 that will cure the problem, if not then you need to be looking at the track rod ends as they could be knackered

Pretty straightforward to remove & replace yourself, the tricky bit is getting at the nut & bolt that connects the column to the rack

Not if the bottom gaiters are split. More than likely the union joint in he rack tbh.
