Hi,
New on here, but looking for a spare set of 15x7 Speedlines for my Mk1 Cup Race Car.
I've bought the car to race in the Trackday Trophy championship, so am after a spare set of wheels for wets. Colour / cosmetic condition unimportant, but they must be straight !

thanks,

Jamie

It's the only decent pic I've got so far, to be honest ! Will post more next time I see the car (currently in storage awaiting some race-prep).

Ok :)

May have seen that car before, I recognise the colour!

I know very little about the car, who drove it, how well it did etc, so if anyone does recognise it and knows anyhting about it's history, I'd love to hear ........
I believe it's fairly standard Cup spec but running with carbs at c.150bhp. I guess I'll learn more about it as we get it up to current MSA standards (it hasn't been raced since mid 1990s).
It's certainly no garage queen and has seen its fair share of action, with the scars to prove it ! But with a brief shakedown on road tyres at Brands it was keeping various Clio 172 and 182s honest ! So it should be a decent base to work from and a fun project to get it competitive.

arh so it went up for sale then. Nice car - i saw this a few months ago at Donnington Park.

Looked one of the better examples i have seen so far.

Please could you keep us updated with all budgets / parts etc to run in a race series. Something i am Keen on doing.

Nice looking car that, we will have to get all the surviving cups together one day. If you look on you tube theres early 91/92 footage on there :D ANDREW.

Yes, it's the car you saw at Donington - I beleive that was its last outing before we bought it last week.
I've seen the Youtube footage - most of it seems to be crashes ! Looking at how much contact there was it's a wonder that there are any of these cars left ! Mine is certainly not pristine, though the paint is excellent and hides a few sins !
Budget-wise I'm not really sure what to expect yet, but at the very least to make it compliant we are looking at a new driver's seat and harness (dates expired on the current kit), new extinguisher and a set of R888 tyres. I suspect there will need to be some new fastening hardware on the cage and that sort of thing, but otherwise I don't think it will need much more. There is all of the safety gear to go on top - race suit, boots, underwear, new lid etc etc - it does add up. I can see it costing £2k just to get us on the grid.
No doubt we will end up spending a lot more on "shiny bits", big brakes, more power etc etc, but that's not the immediate priority.

Nice car.

I tried to get Renault interested in a display of the existing Cup cars at WSR this year but I ran into a brick wall when Renault Sport moved away from Grovewood.
If we could organise something how many people have Cup cars and would be interested in getting them all together for a track day or similar??

i read somewhere now that the front roll cages have to be straight bars from the roof to the floor. That would be a bit of cost for you in getting changed.

Have had problems with mine this year , its all down to how you read the rules had photos taken of the cage and sent off to msa was a right pain in the arse, probably have the same problem next year :(

I'm sure if you read the rules. If you have the homoligation papers for the cage, it will still be compliant. There was alot of concern with the escort safety devices cages as they have a double bend in the front leg but if you have the papers with the rops certs it's fine

i doubt many still have the original certifications with the cages now a days

Thats the problem I had no cert. for the cage and Devil cages are not well known in this country so we will see what happens next season.

Interesting .......... That was not an issue I had considered. There are other things about the cage eg size and thickness of mounting plates that I was concerned about, not the bend in the front legs. I read the relevant bit of the regs a while back, and noted where it mentioned that a cage that was previously homologated "may" be allowed despite failure to comply with the current standards. My cage does have the homologation sticker and number on it, but I'm not sure the certificate is with the car's paperwork (which I've yet to see .........).
I think I'd better have another careful read of the regs ! I'm also planning to take the car along to Brands on Saturday to let the scrutineers have a look over it.

Plates i am sure you will be fine with. is it just the trackday trophy series?

There is the http://www.csccgb.co.uk/ pre 93 series that i was looking into. http://www.csccgb.co.uk/champ_pre93.html

Hmmm, just tried to post the relevant section from the MSA Blue Book, but the forum software had a hissy fit !

Anyway, long story short, you are allowed a bend in the front leg of the cage, but only one, and it needs to follow the A pillar. So I think we'll be ok. The pictures at the end of the safety section of the regs also confirm this.

I guess we'll just have to see how the scrutineers interpret the regs. At the very least we will need some rollcage padding.

Yes, it's the Trackday Trophy we are planning on entering !

The issue with mine wasnt the bends (as the cage has to bend to follow the pillar) but the way the devil cage is sleeved on the door and roof bars. To be honest it is all in the interpretation of the rules as one officials view is different to the next. Best idea is get it msa log booked, last time I had that done cost about £35 (may have gone up as all rally cars need to be re-log booked for next year) Cages are a bit of a minefield lately. :(

Jamie Summers
09-11-2011, 14:25
Thanks for that ! Obvious question, I'm afariad, but how does one go about getting an MSA logbook ?

Not sure anymore as my car is a modprod car for hill climbs I dont need a new one best ask somebody like Evogone, but last time I had it done an msa scrutineers did it at an event. I am sure it will be fine. Hope that helps ANDREW.

As for the roll cage cert, you could try and get a copy from devil. Safety devices just provide a photocopy and this is classed as acceptable.
As for getting it scrutineered, you need to find your local one. Then ring them up and they will organise seeing the car and checking to see if it meets requirements. There is a list of names and locations on the msa site.

On that note I need to take mine soon :)
