Hi all

Just wasting some time looking at the Wilwood setup that some people run on the Williams. Seems there was a group buy a few years back also.

The caliper used, I believe, is the Forged Dynalite Caliper (120-6805). Product details here:-

http://www.wilwood.com/Calipers/CaliperProd.aspx?itemno=120-6805

When I was doing my searching I came across this thread:-

http://www.williamsclio.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24884&highlight=wilwood+group+buy

Tony mentions that "you use standard size discs, so either use your original ones, or buy new 259mm size ones..." yet if you look at the caliper details it suggests a thicker disc is needed; minimum of 24mm. The standard Williams disc is only 21mm thick (and that's new, as it will wear down further over time) and same for the larger 285mm disc (which K-Tec offer on the big break conversion from the R21 2.0 TXi).

What problems will there be if you run too thin a disc?

Anyway, I've had a trawl around to try and find a disc that fits within the caliper spec's and came across the front discs for the Vauxhaul Combo 1.3 TD (2004).

http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/detprod.asp?productcode=D1304&PID=1205441

It is a vented 4 stud disc, 280mm in diameter (so slightly smaller than the R21 disc but means it will still fit) and is 25mm thick when new. In addition, the height of the disc is 43mm. Only 2mm more than the standard Williams disc, which is 41mm. Seems to me it would be nearly perfect. It just beats the minimum disc depth for the caliper, and, falls nicely between the minimum and maximum disc diameter for the caliper. :)

What do people think? Would it be a suitable disc if purchased?

My next lot of questions are:-

1. Where do you get brackets from for the caliper? Do you have to find a local metal fabricator?

2. What brake hoses do you need? Do standard Williams hoses fit, or do you need some funky banjo setup?

3. Do the standard bolts work? Again, if not, do people know what size is needed?

Cheers. 8)

for ease of fitting I would look at 172 disks. Cheap too

3mm off thickness wont make a lot of difference in reality. I ran 28mm thick were 32mm were specified on a 200sx, and it wasn't noticable at all

You do need longer brake hoses and some longer bolts

Also interested in where to get appropriate bracketry!

Thanks, yeah I saw that the Clio 172 discs were possibly also an option:-

Thanks for the reply. You don't happen to have anymore info do you, on the specific lengths?

Yeah that's always the thing that stumps me (or puts me off). If it were a case of shop A sells the calipers and hoses, shop B sells the brackets and bolts... excellent! I hate not knowing where to get stuff.

yozzasport used to sell a complete kit for this iirc including brackets... might be worth a try?

Sorry no info on the lengths, just took my bolts to a local nut & bolt shop & said I want some a bit longer & ended up trimming them down a bit

OK, that's not a big deal I guess. Any idea on the fitments for brake hoses?

Thanks again.

I run R19 16v hoses on my Wilwoods, they screw into the middle of the calipers at the back,as you can see theres no way they can snap where too short like the Williams ones..

I got mine from Yozzasport years ago as a bundle package with the alloy adapters too,the hubs need to have an angle ground off them to stop the adapters fouling too

Thanks snowman! So nothing special needed, just regular R19 16v hoses work? That's cool, thanks. :D

Thanks for the info about the adapters/hub as well. That shouldn't be too much of a hassle if it needs a bit grinding away. :D

Yep regular R19 16v hoses,no special fitment.

Snowman, sorry, I forgot to say. You know how the R19 16v hoses fit the front. I take it the rears are OK as well. i.e. I won't have to mix and match. The whole set of 4 work fine on the Williams?

Just done a little adding up. The Wilwood setup looks to be great value for money (sorry if I'm stating the obvious) lol.

I did have the following setup down in my mind:-

K-Tec Big Brake Conversion - £238.80
Tarox Corsa 114 Pads - £80.58

Total - ~£320.

If you do the Wilwood setup:-

Wilwood Forged Dynalite Caliper - £119.40 (x2)
Poly E pads - £71.40
Clio 1*2 Brembo Max Discs - £45.95

Total - ~£355.

I know what I'm changing too when I eventually get this Williams! Need to stick hoses on that price and adapters. But still, great value. 8)

well unless the rear brake set-up on a Williams is different to a valver the R19 16v rear hoses fit just fine.

Thanks. :) Last question I promise... when we say R19 16v, what engine size is that and what year model? 1.8 abs? non-abs?

Oooooohhh! What are you doing to sort bracketing to have the 172 discs?

It's something I want to do but not quite sure how to go about it

Not sure yet. I'm guessing it'll be a case of trial fitment and then getting some dimensions down so that I can get a metal fabricator to mock up some brackets for the caliper. The discs should fit to the hub with no bother.

Need to get a Williams first though.

My plans have changed. Originally I wanted a Williams for a project car, but, I'm now going to get one as my main drive. The current motor, I'm going to give back to the garage as it's on PCP. :)
