Always the same plot on these films, based around LA or New york always a gung ho macho marine saving a family with kids.
They seriously need to think of a new city to destroy, i mean LA is a shite hole anyhow if aliens landed there they'd be shot, carjacked or drive by'ed, by some homey from compton, or be so worried they'd get sued by some leech of a lawyer.

rant over, good special effects mind you.

Yeah drove close by on my honeymoon, got to Hotel and was chattin to the receptionist, she said Sir, 2 tourists got carjacked and shot there last week don't drive there at any cost. Changed underwear as soon as i got to the room.
