Up for sale is my Mk1 16v Clio which I have owned for nearly 2 years and which is now running a Ph1 172 engine (F4R). I am very reluctant to sell this car due to how long it took me to find an example so mint (I spent months searching for 1 before buying this!) and also for all the time effort and hard work that has gone into this car! I need to get myself a bit more sensible for work and after owning 5 Mk1 Clios I need to break away!

Here is the important info of the car!

- 1995 Phase 2 16v Clio
- ~128,000miles on the clock (I will verify specific mileage if necessary) but that is the mileage of the shell. The 172 engine has covered ~109,000 miles. The engine is very strong and starts, drives and pulls as it should! Burns no oil or water in the time I have had it.
- Clutch and timing belt were done about a year before I bought the car so are still have a lot of life left in them.
- Gearbox is in very good condition with no crunches etc and recently was filled with fresh oil, it really does drive lovely.
- MOT and TAX until Late February. (Flew through its MOT last year!)
- Lots of history for the car itself and also managed to secure some history for the new engine along with rolling roads print outs etc.
- Comes with a full set of keys including immobiliser keys. All keys work.
- Comes with a Cat1 immobiliser(key fob type) but this was removed when engine was installed but can easily be replaced by any competent person.
- Electric Sunroof has never leaked in all the time I have had it and it works perfectly as well as the remote central locking. (common fault with Mk1 clios.)

The car itself is in very good condition and the bodywork really is very tidy for a 15year old car! There is not a spot of rust on it anywhere, even on the arches which are immaculate! The main body of the car has the odd stone chip or very minute car park d1nk but these are nearly unnoticeable. The only part of the car paint that isn’t in very good condition is the front bumper which suffered damage from a minibus scratching the paint with its rear step. The paintwork has always been washed and polished religiously over the time I have had it, which is probably why it is in such good shape!

The interior of the car again is in very good condition with full original grey leather seats etc. The only let down is the drivers bolster which as usual with these cars is worn/torn slightly! Replacements can be acquired at a reasonable cost if this really bothers you. The rear bench and passenger seat are unmarked.

The car is currently sitting on a set of Williams wheels which I purchased about a year ago and had powder coated in silver which are in very good condition, not a single scrape or curb mark. (These cost me over £300 all in) They are wrapped in 4 good condition Goodyear Eagle F1 195/50/15 tyres.

Due to the fact the car has the 172 engine fitted the exhaust had to be fabricated from manifold back, so I had a downpipe fabricated and mated up to the existing Mk1 exhaust system. This is sitting a little bit higher than normal (closer to the car) and occasionally in reverse it will very slightly vibrate off the bottom of car. This isn’t a major problem just a slight irritating noise, but only in reverse so not whilst driving anyway. Personally it does not bother me enough to worry about it. The car would probably benefit from a powerflex dogbone mount and would really make the engine solid from bottom movement and eradicate this.

When fitting the 172 engine I also modified the clutch release fork to a Volvo item which makes the clutch a lot easier and lighter than the standard Mk1 clutch which If I am honest is very heavy to use in traffic daily! This is a popular modification carried out and it was well worth doing. The car is also running standard 16v running gear.

Work done in the last 12 months.

-New Pads all round.
-New Suspension top mounts
-New anti roll bar bushes.
-New Wishbone ball joints (both sides)
-New alternator (Has only done a couple of thousand miles)
-New front bearings when I first got the car.

I am sure there will be more I have forgotten about as I really have not spared any expense on this car since I have had it. I like to maintain my cars to a very high standard. I will update with anything else I remember.

I will be giving the car an oil/filter change (and spark plugs if necessary¬) before sale so as that the car is fresh and ready to go for its new owner. The coolant was recently fully flushed out and replaced and the Mk1 heater system works very well and gets hot as it should (important for those winter mornings!). Common problem with Mk1 Clios is having no hot air from blowers due to blocked heater matrix.

Included with the car (but not fitted) and in the price is going to be the following:

- Peugeot 406 4-pot Brembo callipers. These are in good working order. I stripped them down to the bare metal which took many hours of hard work, I then painted them to a very high standard in a red enamel paint. These callipers only ever came in black on the 406.

- Set of used 172 280mm discs to be used in conjunction with the above. The discs have lots of life left in them and in good condition.

- Mintex Brembo Pads brand new in box to go with above.

- Set of brand new front braided hoses to be fitted with the above.

- Brembo decals in white to be applied to the callipers if you so wish.

All you need to fit this above package is 4x 3mm thick washers to locate the calliper centrally on the hub. You will get these in any decent hardware store. The above set-up is worth well over £250 in parts alone. I have seen those callipers on their own in bad condition sell for over £250 on ebay many times.

- Also the car will come with a set of 172cup front springs so as that you can raise the car up a bit whilst still having slightly lower than standard ride height.

Few “bad” points:

-The boot carpet had to be thrown away after a clumsy mechanic spilt 5 litres of engine oil over the boot and destroyed the carpet! So unfortunately this is not present but again, it would be cheap and easy to get hold of 1 if you so wished.

-As said there is cosmetic damage to front bumper and also the centre grill was cracked by the minibus so this isn’t fitted. I personally prefer the look of it anyway and it gives better air flow to the rad on those hotter days.

-Currently the rev-counter does not work as I never got around to wiring this up after the engine swap but I will have this up and running before the sale of the car. Just wanted to point this out incase you come to view and it does not work. I will have it working before sale.

- 1 of the scuttle panel hatch doors is missing. This cannot be seen unless the bonnet is open.

This car would make an awesome project for someone wishing to do more work to it or someone who wants to buy a great track car . Or if you simply want a very good condition Mk1 Clio then look no further, you will struggle to find a better one.

So there it is, all the info I can think of to hand. If there is anything else at all that you need to know please do not hesitate to contact me.
I genuinely am gutted to have to sell this car but there is no way I can afford to buy a newer car and also keep this.

PRICE: I am putting this car up for sale at £2250ono. I have based this price on the condition of the car, the work/money gone into it and the fact that it comes with other parts worth a fair bit. I will not be letting this car go for very cheap. i.e Close to what you would pay for your average Clio 16v. If you are GENUINELY interested in this car then please get in contact and we will discuss the price etc.
