Hi all, I've got a Williams 3 and I need to replace the gearbox I just need to know whether or not the Williams 1,2 or 3 uses a different gearbox to the 1.8 16v. Basically do I have to replace it with a gearbox from a Williams?
Thanks....

Renault for a recon box like £600 - £900 depending on your luck and branch i think.

Or on any of the renault forums. I wanted one for ages, believe me finding a good Williams JC5 014 is quite a task these days.

Valver box has a longer 4th and shorter 5th.

Williams box has a shorter 4th and longer 5th.

If I were you I would not use JB3 instead of JC5. JC5 is stronger (tapered bearings, wider teeths) and the gear ratio matches enough good to the F7R torque curve.

I wrote a software, called Renault váltók (Renault gearboxes in English), you can easily compare different Renault gearboxes (and gear ratios) by this program.

By the way JC5-129 and JC5-130 have the same ratios as JC5-014 (1st: 3.09, 2nd: 1.863, 3rd: 1.321, 4th: 1.029, 5th: 0.794, FD: 4.067). 129 has speedo cable output, 130 doesn't have but a machine shop can do it, so it's not matter.
