bad luck once again with the turbo..... i went for a spin with a friend today on the motorway when we saw skock comming from the engine bay. when we stopped to see what has happend we saw that the main coolant hose slipped from the head, so we stopped fixed it, filled the car with coolend but then the car started on 3 cyllinders. and white smoke from the exhaust.

meaning: bye bye HG. now its either 1 std HG or ordering a new thick one from UK

any advise?>

i have steel one from engine dynamics, and is fine, doubt you will be able to kill one of those.

it might not of gone except the coolant hoses coming off

wasnt boost that killed it..

me i would wire ring the block and use standard head gaskets myself..

but turbo ones are ok but expensive and even that might of gone with the coolant issue..

needs to be checked

only then will you know if it needs to be skimmed

Yep and crack-tested. Would suck if you re-fitted it only to find it's now got an internal crack.

We always use standard HG, when there's something wrong with the engine, it pops... (like a faulty coolant hose). If you put a stronger HG in, something else will pop...

I'd always have the head tested personally unless you wanna do a pikie job on it. I hate pikies, so get it checked.

yes the head will be taken off next week and tested. if the head needs to be skimmed will mean that the cr will rise a bit. does that mean that the car needs to be remapped? its currently mapped at 10 psi with a cr of 8.5(pistons) and 1.4mm spesso HG.

another question: what can be the cause of a engine not fireing with 4 plugleads in and then the engine fires when only cylinder 3 lead is out? so with cylinder 3 out it starts and work on 3 remaining cylinders.

can that be the cause of a faulty HG?

does anyone has any experiance with cometic gaskets? are they suitable for turbo applications?

First change the plugs, then the leads, then the distributer arm and cap. They are cheap. Next try swapping the coil and distributer for good ones. Then you'll know if you need to buy one of those. In my experience most ignition problems are caused by the above.

I've not used Cometic myself but they should be fine.

tnx kj for the advise.. but all of the above are new only the coil isn't.
and then again if one of those are faulty the engine should start with the lead in on 3 cylinders iirc.

it doesnt do this always its just sometimes that the car doesnt wanna start. i find this a really strange phenomenon
