View Full Version : VALHALLA.....WILLIAMS
As some of you may know id sold my Williams, well to cut a long story short the guy that bought it was giving it death coming back from London at three in the morning........running fine no noises, then BANG!!! loss of power.
Gets it towed back checks it in the morning,no oily mess no conrod sticking out the block etc,but wont turn over and cant push it in gear.?
The only thing he said was that he had the tensioner pulley changed by Renault, cause mine was a little squeecky. hes in the AA so i said get them to inspect it an get a report to see what damage its done.
temp had been ok ,oil too, mileage 100,000.........i suppose the bottom line to this story is where can he get another engine from? (ye ive pmd Mat)........Hes a nice chap so i said id try an help him along. any further thoughts would be appreciated.

Was it a longish half-day job replacing the tensioner? My guess is the Renault mechanics loosened the mounts (to lift the block slightly) to get better access to the belt and tensioner. Did not fit back the mounts properly, but the car ran OK. The loud bang was the block being thrown out, seized up the belt and displaced the gearbox linkage alignment.
sounds more like a belt issue than a sieze if there was no noise before it happened. The engine could be ok though.
Typical Reno if thats the case.

It still has oil in it so my first guess would be cambelt failure.

Finally got round to having a quick look at it today and it looks like its the tensioner bolt that come undone and rattled around the cambelt area.

Yes, i am holding off on any work until he has spoken to renault.
It looks to me like they are liable, it's just getting them to admit it/prove it.

So much for putting your trust in professionals
