View Full Version : fast idle mot fail
got the car on the lowest idle speed and it failed the mot test. do you think it needs to be tuned. been going through a lot of petrol since I put in the f7r engine. by the way havent re-registered the car yet so going through the mot as 1.8 can this be the reason for the failure or should thihgs be the same

What does it idle at?
I've never heard of a car failing on a high idle
natural idle test exhaust emmissions test fail =920 fail 600 800

I don't understand what you've just posted.
The standard idle should be 850 +/- 50 rpm
If yours is too low or high then just adjust the idle screw

Do not touch the idle screw! - It does nothing to control the idle, the ISCV does that.

Kermack, i'm not sure what you are trying to say, did it fail on emissions or just the fact it was idling too high?

Really? What's it there for?
the idle screw was at its lowest any way. the car failed on the natural idle test .it says (exhaust engine idle speed to high) on the fail sheet. can this be caused by the cat being for 1.8 16v or should it be OK with 2.0 16v

Probably used on a different engine without an ISCV, it should be covered up by some silicon on ours.
