I want a new camera.

Don't mind 2nd hand and will spend say £200 or so.

Going on a safari next year so decent zoom would be good.

What do ppl think?

should pick up a decent older canon or nikon DSLR for that mate, 350d like i have with a 70-200mm autozoom lens may be had for that kind of price if you look hard enough

Do I need a SLR? Am I getting one soley for the zoom function (on your recomendation that is). I had a go on chrisnnics and that looked pretty fancy.

dont need one no mate, but if you want to get decent snaps of moving animals they are a sound bet to start and can be had for a very decent price. if you stretch to 300 should be able to get a really good long range zoom lens with it and nail yourself a few zebras............ahem
