I share a car with a friend of mine as a named driver. A Seat Leon 1.6sx 2005. Great car to be honest although its a bore compared to my real driving machine!
Anyway they are pretty well off and it gets serviced at the main dealer for book stamps even though they know id do it for them for much less.

Today it went for its 40k service and an MOT. It needed new brake fluid and they replaced the front and rear pads because they were "quite" worn. The only thing it failed on was a front bulb and the front spot-light lens was replaced too as it was cracked.

Parts and labour plus 1 MOT test came to....

..£670

ABSOLUTELY GOBSMACKED!!!

So, £50 for the MOT, £40 for pads, £10 for fluid, £35 (?) for lens, oil, plugs and filter another £60, and 3 hours labour at a (big) push?

I'd ask them to check their calculator because that comes to roughly £150 an hour labour...they must be having you on!

Rip off.

Of course, with new legislation meaning manufacturers dont have to share parts/info it means main dealer servicing will be a must for newbs with no idea, or people with complex modern cars to work on.

Luckily for us, the Willy is relatively easy to work on with a massive parts from other manufacturers.

Yeh its totaly ridculous. I felt really sorry for her and feel i should have been more forcefull about letting me take care of it. I could have done all that work for about 140quid for parts at most but I had no idea it would be this expensive to be honest.

Ive never owned a new car and i never take my car to garages unless its for something like tracking or MOT. I Think my mates mum has more money than sense though.

And they deffinatly ripped her off because when she rang up for a break down of the cost there was some confusion and they ended up saying "we will call it 600" so its clearly all made up anyway.
