View Full Version : 182 exhaust manifold and downpipe
Would one of these 182 manifold and downpipes fit an F7 head do you reckon? If so, would it fit down under the subframe and rack?
anyone ever tried?
the head yes..the car i'm not sure though seen the modified to fit 172 powered mk1's

182 doesnt fit mk1 shell, thought a 172 mani does

as they go over the subframe iirc not under?
yeah..might need to mod power steering pipes if fitted iirc

ah yeah that too but could fit a r19 pas rack or a non assisted rack , matty86 knows best about that
PAS pipes need modding.
Im half way through butchering a 172 mani for mine. Altering primary length is easier on them also.
^^^^^^
half way pah..
right i see, so 182/172 manifold/downpipe goes over the subframe and rack? I'm sure there would be enough space as it looks like renault though about this for original routing on the mk1? lol.
moving a few pas pipes is np.

rack need some welding to move one of the fixed pipes
could go for a manual rack though ?

Yeah or a r19 pas rack as the pipes are in adifferent position
anyone have a 19 rack or 19 16v rack..to hand..
are the arms longer as in a willy rack or longer still..
182 manifold will hit the bulkhead
172 manifold with a custom downpipe will fit, but needs either a manual rack or the PAS rack modified
have you tried a 182 manifold then? I mean for fitting to an F7R not f4r though... (your running an f4r right?)?
the f4r has pretty much the same external dimensions as the f7r (it's basically an updated f7r, contrary to all the hate), so the manifold position would be the same on both engines
a few have tried it, most notably one of the first people to do the 172 conversion, wayne, tried it and said it wasn't even close. the 4-2-1 is just too chunky to fit. the 4-1 172 manifold fits fine, with steering mods.
rumour on the street has it, the 172 4-1 is ultimately better for higher power... but before rob jumps all over me, that's just passing on what i've read several times on cs
aye, forum hearsay again.
Why would renault develop another manifold giving more power if the original 172 manifold was fine for the job???
in standard engine form, the 182 gives better low down torque... but apparently once you start modding the engine, the 172 becomes better :? - don't shoot the messenger ;)
also, the inlets were changed on the 182 which helps!
i know someone who has a 172 maifold on an F7R, will let you know ;)

and the modded valver steering rack:

port spacing is the same, bolt holes arent.
Its not difficult, weld an F7R exhaust flange on...and make a down-pipe to suit.
port spacing is the same, but surely the f4rs port size is larger?
look at the size of the 172 tubes compared to a williams manifold.. willy ones are tiiiiny
nope, the pipes on the williams manifold are smaller than the port.
if u cut the manifold primaries about 20mm from the flange, its cool.
have you got a picture of a williams head for comparison?

Not on this laptop, no.
the williams ports are round..hence cut the tubes 20-mm from the flange, i.e on the round section.
nice pas rack mod there matty.
so to confirm, the 172 manifold fits through, but the 182 doesn't as its to fat, so some bulkhead modding is required?

So like a true clio enthusiast you'll need to break out the angle grinder & welding gear

yes :)
(with either a manual rack or modded pas rack + custom downpipe obv)

I've done the manifold, and got a rack to modify, we'll have it on the car quite soon.
any pics dan? Is it a customers car or just a project of yours? I take it you are referring to a mk1 clio.
I'd like to try a full 182 manifold and downpipe tbh, I don't mind modifying the bulkhead to make things fit, but I do wonder if it would fit without any modding. PAS is easy to do really as pipes can be moved etc.

I did mean 172 4-1 mani BTW. No pics ATM, it's not "finished"
Due to go on the Spider (megane) engined RSI
