Hello all, I registered on here to find some parts and info for the F7P conversion on my volvo 340. I'd be rude if I didn't offer something back in return for the knowledge I've grabbed from this helpful forum

So here it is, started out as a 1.4 base model (manual windows and heated seats LOL). Now it has;
an F7P from an R19, this is the second one as I broke a clio engine by over-revving (more on that later),
polybushed front suspension arms, tie rods and ARB,
cut front springs and lowering blocks at the back (-2"),
Homemade Jetex exhaust system,
15" 5spoke wheels with 195/50 R15 Toyo Proxes T1-R tyres,
Momo Prototipo steering wheel,

Oh, and twin Dell'orto DHLA40 carbs.

Pics or it doesn't exist!

How it looked when I picked it up:

lowered on volvo 440 wheels:

even lower with an F7P in the boot

then it came off the road because the sills needed 'adjustment'

Repaired, along with the rear number plate panel:

Need to fit this though:

Engine number one went bang when I missed third racing an integra DC2 and buzzed it right off the clock
I've been a lot more careful with the new one obviously.

So, hopefully I haven't bored anyone, and if you have any questions please ask away.

Cheers!

John.

No problem, here you go:

Bellhousing mounts (gearbox is at the rear of the car)
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n298/filthyjohn/21042009185.jpg

Front right bolts to the volvo sump:

Front left goes over the water pump:
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n298/filthyjohn/21042009178.jpg

Those two sit on this front crossmember:
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n298/filthyjohn/21042009176.jpg

Lower alternator bracket:
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n298/filthyjohn/21042009177.jpg

And upper bracket:
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n298/filthyjohn/21042009179.jpg

All the mounts are taken from a 1.7 340 as that's essentially the same block. It really couldn't be any easier to fit the engine. :D

impressive stuff ,looks like all f type reno engines have the same
mounting points on the blocks ,its the mounts that differ .
sump bolted mount is a new one for me though .

thanks for the pictures mate :P

btw forgot to ask ,
is that a standard volvo 340 1.7 gearbox ? if so what sort of
power/torque can it handle ??

i am thinking volvo 480 turbo box would be a stronger one to use ?
or what else is there in volvo range similar to the one you are using ?

The gearbox is the same throughout the range of 300s, 1.4/1.7/2.0 (though the 2.0 360s have a different casing). It's an old 240 box internally, and is a pretty tough old thing. A lot of people thought they were weak, but there was one 360 turbo running over 300lbft reliably.
The main weak point is the propshaft, which you can fubar with 75hp if you try hard enough  but mine has been ok so far with around 150hp and some pretty hefty abuse. Then there's the diff, which will break if you spend a lot of time spinning one wheel. It's ok as long as you spin both LOL, hence they seem to last longer if you weld them up.

The sump engine mount does the job of the top driver's side one on a clio, which wouldn't work in the volvo as it would attach to the slam panel. Volvo themselves kindly solved the F-block mounting problems, and Renault kindly didn't change the blocks much through the years. Too easy.

What I'd like to know is would a 172/182/197 engine from the later clios fit?

yeah as they mounts up the same as well..well 172/182 iirc

^^^ Cheers for that, nobody seemed to know. I've seen some 182 lumps for around £4-500 so that'd be cost effective power. The electrics (drive-by-wire throttle!) put me off though, and I have a lead on some cams so I'll probably shoot for about 180hp that way, then call the car finished.

dear god filthy, you can sell it! You getting scared?

Dude, I've been driving it in the wet weather today and yeah it's pretty scary. The carbs don't work properly until you give it >60% throttle, and then it suddenly comes on cam so it's like spooling a turbo up. When the wheels start spinning, it kicks to the side, following the road camber which is great fun.
I love it loads.
