Instead of hijacking Mervin's post, I'll start this one. In no particular order, and according to what the mags have said over the past 15 years, I reckon the top five are -

Mk2 Golf GTi 16v
205 GTi 1.6
Clio Williams
306 Rallye/GTi 6
Clio 182 Cup (or probably Trophy)

Also a shout out too....

R5 GTT
MK1 Golf GTi
Mini Cooper S Works
106 GTi

Open to suggestions/corrections/disagreements :D

Id agree with that list but id prob change the 182 to the mini and sling it up 1 nothc changing its place with the 306.

Yup would agree on the top 5 there Zollo apart from the 205 1.6 GTI (I'd have the 1.9 in the top 5). Also I've added the 309 GTI as it definitely deserves a mention. Also, (don't mean to throw a spanner in the works) I'd mention the Citroen Visa GTI (essentially a 205 GTI 1.6 with a Visa shell) I had one of these years ago and was an amazing little car although the looks and diabolocal build quality let it down. It's probably too rare/unknown to make it in the list tho...

Escort RS turbo was one of my faves- out off all ive owned,faster & sounded better than my R5 + had the best seats ive sat in.Did break down quite a bit though.
Xr2 fiesta(when they were a lot newer!) was great fun too,especially with the TurboTechnics kit on :twisted:

Never been in a Mk2 Golf GTI, but everybody seems to rave on about them. I'm not a bg fan of Veedubs full stop really

Mk1 golf is better than mk2 from what I've heard.

The last test I read, think it was Evo, said that the Mk1 really does feel old now, even next to the 205/Mk2. So I thought I'd leave it out. Difficult though :?

As Tommo said, I haven't put them in order. Bit lame I know, but that would be too difficult. :D

There are other cars I love too (S1 RST) and that are great (AX GT, Visa), but I've just not read anything referring to them as ever being the greatest HHs - hence they're not on the list :(
