What is the real deal on this? Is it really worth it? Whats the exact cost in pounds sterling and the exact weight saved and the estimated power gains. What was the method 2live was talking about to achieve the same power gains using a different method but keeping the power steering?
Its all a bit vague as to what exactly it involves at the moment. Can we have some factual details please? It could be important but until those that have done it spill the beans we are all left in the dark.
I really can't see it making that much differance.
After driving my mates RS turbo all this week i'd hate to lose my power steering.

Hasn't clean16v (mehdi) just had this done on his willified valver?
Dunno much about this meself, but might be worth axin him bout it
A few on here have done it mate.
You need
Manual rack £100 ECP
Manual column £160 renault / £20 second hand
Bondys bracket and belt kit - £50
Weight saved 15kg at least, if not more, can weight the old stuff but not the new. will do it tomorrow.
Need to test it against another williams to see how effective it is. steering is no heavier imo only when parking but if you keep it moving a bit its OK.
You can feel the tarmac lol

stromaba ..u can get under drive pullies for all aux items...pas/alternator etc...which basically give u some free horses cos the lighter smaller pullies dont take as much power from the engine to get them to turn..think they bout £170 a full set.not 100% sure on price tho.........is said to be good for 5bhp.......but thats debateable too lol...will give extra power tho def

i don't know Mehdi nearly managed to put his shoulder out as mine was dead light above like 2mph. The weight when parking isn't too bad either...yes it's heavier but not THAT bad...and thats coming from a skinny sod like me!
I can't say for 100% sure how much extra power it makes but my 16v felt noticably quicker when accelerating with it done...I could spin the wheels in 3rd on slightly uneven surface which, with my previously 'std' 1.8, i couldn't...

its not bad at all...when i dorve winstons i couldnt believe it... really feels nice and controllable... seems to be a lot of torque as well.....
i reckon a comparison is needed....
but im definately having manual.
Got the kitchen scales out lol
Power steering rack - 7.5kg
Pump and brackets - 7.0kg
Manual rack - 4-5kg (guess)
Which makes it a easy 10kg weight save, because you have to add the weight of the p/s fluid as well. Got pics and will do a bit of a guide but I will save that for the updated forum/homepage?

yep, had this done at teh same time willy box and engine was dropped in. performance wise i think the car seems more responsive, but maybe im expecting it. At first i thought the sterring was too heavy and regretted it, but im a little more used to it now and its ok. Need tracking and tyre pressure sorting before i can really tell! I think it will make a difference performance wise, need winston to compare against a willy, but then his is a 2l clio sowil be faster anyway :lol:

If not have you noticed differencing in handling.
Bit to early to tell........but some times more lock is needed...But can't tell you for sure, not driven a valver/williams for 6 months.......All will become clear on wednesday Costco meet.
that sounds like such a pointless thing to do, just leave them as they are!!

Can't say i noticed much difference in handling between PAS and non-PAS...can't say i even noticed any difference in ratios between the RT rack i used and the valver one, tho' i'd suspect the RT rack may have needed less turns lock-to-lock.
