View Full Version : Plasma Cutters - Anyone rented/used them?
As some of you know i stuck my rsi on ebay the other as i couldn't get the front subframe bolts undone due to rust/corrosion.
It sold the other day for £204 but i haven't heard anything from the buyer and am beginning to suspect i'm going to be stuck with it.
So,
i've been looking into whether i can hire some kit to enable me to cut the subframe and finish the job - a place local to me (HSS) seem to do things called "plasma cutters" at approx 60quid per day for something that'll cut 10-15mm steel.
Has anyone had experience of using these things and would they be up to the job?
there up to the job but i think major overkill really...
and there not easy to use either. and dangerous as hell..
can you just use a grinder 4.5 inch 9 inch...
Well its on my driveway so i'm bothered about the neighbours moaning...already got the nobhead next door spying on me so i think he'd be round complaining if i did a lot of grinding TBH.
Take it the plasma option would be quiet?
Is drilling them and getting an eaze out in there an option ?
yeah...just a thermic lance thats cuts though steel...
whats the problem with the bolts? are they spinning with the cages??

i think you also need compressed air to run alot of the cutters. The ones ive used you have to, also you will proobly do more harm than good to your car or/and yourself. I nowdays use a recharable ricipitating saw on cutting cars up. Faster than a grinder, alot safer and not noisey.
Bolts are ****ed...put a spanner on them and the head disintegrate.
Yes, compressed air is needed on the plasma cutters - what do these recipitating saws look like as that may be another option?
doubt you'll get on them easy with a recip saw.
know anyone with an oxy-accetlyne set?
Failing that, a plasma cutter would piss them.
Dunno if they'd just rent one out "to anyone" though,.,,,they are a bit of kit!
Hellish good fun though
or a 1.2mm cutting disc on a 4.5" grinder, go at them at an angle and chop the heads off in sections.

i'd use a thin disc as mentioned above. they cut quicker than a thicker one, so the noise created is for a shorter span, only downside is they can wear out quickly
Would only take 2 ticks with a grinder... wait for him to go out lol
My dads got a plasma cutter... he cut up a hole naples valver with it lol... needs a compressor and they are pretty loud
