I always recommend a older bikes.

You can get a bruiser of an mid-late 80s bike for half what you'll pay for the equivalent modern bike. Insurance is massively cheaper too for some reason.

Old isn't everyones preference though and it'll also depend if you want a nose-down-arse-up bike or a real mans bike.

Bandit 600s are meant to be good and comfortable as well;

Dunno what you learnt but i got a ER-5 for my lessons...also good, cheap and a nice starter bike...bombproof engines too;

And heres mine;

24 years but will still give many a modern sports bike a run for their money...

hmm the old 900 ninja dont see many nowadays remember test riding one when they first appeared very quick any of the old kawasakis good value and pretty much problem free :) :)

Yep, they're pretty rare now...only seen one other in real life and that was the last of the line with the bigger front wheel and no anti dive.

I keep getting told to sell it and buy something a bit newer but it just feels a bit more special riding it when everyone else had new metal....probably the same as you guys with the williams i guess!

Its an odd bike to ride though...with the 16" front wheel its a bit twitchy at low speeds but the faster you go the better it gets. I've had it to 110 and that was about the most stable its felt so i can see how it'll happily crack 150!

lol. im not saying hes the best rider about, but hes well in with the padgetts crew, and they let him have their tt bikes etc for spins, so he cant be that bad. lol.

a lot would depend on the roads too, certain roads round here his bike wouldnt stand a chance , with him on it, others,, with longer more sweeping bends, i wouldnt stand a chance lol.

Tom had the 900 like mine despite his height.

That 500 you've listed does looks good though. My dad had one of them and its an excellent starter big bike.

How about a VFR 400?

They look awesome and sound awesome and prices seem to have slumped recently.
