Have been looking through all the old posts on cams and i can't seem to find a straight answer. I want to get a set of cams for the williams but not sure which ones. I'm going to go for cat cams as i can get them for around cost price but not sure which profile. Some people sem to say get 425's and others say 428's etc.... I'm after a fairly mild profile, nothing to aggresive which would work on the standard ecu map if possible as haven't got the cash to do the map at the same time.
Can anyone enlighten me?

Cheers Tim

A set of Catcam 5502225's are ideal, quite a few people use them they seem popular and give a good gains. Remap not required.

Dont know what the "428" and "425" you talk of are though, not listed on catcam website.

428's are for the F4R, not the F7R's. 225's are prolly the best compromise on a stock lump and dont need the pistons to be pocketed etc.

how much performance increase would 5502225's have without pullies and ecu mapping?

it will be noticable, it certainly was on my Willy 2

i think ktech use diff cams kent or piper not sure witch after reading you dont need a map for the 225s im going to look into them more now and save the remap for later date.

you can use the standard pulleys, I used the stock pulleys on my old Willy 2. Pre cams it was dead even with Northy's (who had more mods ;)), after cams it was a fair bit quicker with standard pulleys and map even 2 up with Mike (swervin mervin) is the passenger seat

So if i fit the 225's i can getet away without mapping the car, and i won't need to get pullies?

To get the best from them you need to set them at the correct timing figures, so the pulleys are required,
It makes a noticeable difference when they are timed correctly.

Same with mapping.

When timed and mapped, you'll see a real 170-175bhp with them, and a good hike in torque...more than you see with the likes of piper/kent.

They are a very good profile, the "feel" nice ont he road. Ive sold many sets of these to 2.0 F7R users, and they have all been very very happy.

how much we looking at for 225s pullys fitting and timing stan?

stan

cams are £560, pulleys £240, fitting inc timing £350

and fitting the stage 1 cams from k-tec without timing and mapping? not as efficient but way cheaper (223 pounds)

probably those are re-grinded cams??

that means?

you give them your standard cams from the car, and they re-grind them...

G33R7
01-09-2008, 10:32
you have to send your standard cam afterwords. Any experience with these cams?

yes the profiles are not as good as there reground not a new profile onto a blank cam..

k tec use piper 270

stan

yes they are regrinds. you get what you pay for at the end of the day.

There really is no sense in NOT having them timed to the manufacturers spec. Same with mapping, yes alot of people dont have the mapping done straight away, but they usually do a month or so afterwards, and they notice a good gain.

I see little point in spending £270 on regrinds, then cheap to have them fitted cos they arent timed, THEN a few months down the line when you are innevatibly disapointed, you spend the full whack on a decent set-up.

I just wanted to ask how high people with Catcams 5502225 rev their engines? Where powerband ends with these cams? I must know so I can choose the right conrods and pistons for the job.

had mine remapped at rstuning. i have catcam 2225s, no other internal mods.
heres aa ovelaped graph, of gains from the remap. the bottom lines are before it was mapped. top lines are after.

these cams seem to make very good toruque :) which is niceeeeeee

Well after looking at this graph I think there is no reason for revving my engine past 7300. Powerband ends before that, so there's no point having forged conrods.

hello im from sweden and iam looking for cams for my Megane F7R engine it will be turbocharged and installed to my R5 GTE, and i want to know if the willy cams is somthing to spend the money on, or should i buy something else.
I dont want 250++hp only some upgraded cams to start with, because my engine will be a high compression, low boost engine driven on ethanol.

Have anybody measured the difference in power in a megane engine by changing to willy cams ???

were can i get willy cams ?? you cant get any in sweden...

Megane Coupe F7R, has the Williams cams....I think

but actually, I use valver cams, and I feel it is better...but I do not have a turbo charger :)
at catcams.be, you can find an application for turbo use on F7R engines, maybe best is to try those

willy cams are a waste of time really get some cat cams either made to you spec or just the basic ones for turbo use

Ok perhaps i stick to the original for now, first i will have the cylinderhead gasflowed, the exhaust side is realy crappy, then i will have the valveseats regrinded in 3 different angels, and grind them so big they can get with the original valves, only that with a eftermarket ecu will be noticable i think..
