is it worth it on a williams manifold and downpipe? how much is needed to cover the lot?
do you have to clean the manifold ect then wrap it? ive heard of it setting on fire is that true? just after some details on it as it dont seem to expensive so why not give it a go?

Me too - I've bought a spare willy mani to weld and wrap - want to know if I should get it blasted and spray it with high temp paint then wrap it.

I'd also like to know if its gonna to last the course or if it'll be falling off within 3 months..

I will be doing this soon.

I have heard the following:

Manifold is fine, but downpipe wrap can come off if knocked about and as it is exposed a bit under the car may unravel if you get it snagged or if it gets hit by stones etc.

Make sure you get the metal cable tie wrap stuff to firmly keep it on.

About to order some now :)

personally i wouldn't bother, all the research i have read on other cars, similarly specced etc... hardly does anything, its a tad expensive and a biatch to keep on.

The best best for me would be to take off the downpipe and manifild, have it welded up for cracks!.... then get it ceramic coated inside and out, if you wanted to go down the cheap route there are home made glazes/ceramics now you can simply 'cook' on by putting it in your oven! failing that, just take it off and treat with high heat paint to improve the look and aid the heat soak abilities a tad...

Fully agreed

Bloody think has a vent to shove cold air down it, so not going to make feck all difference, especially for the cost

How much is ceramic coating?

i dont know, as you know i now live in the USA and this is what i do with my trucks exhaust and manifolds, custom heat shields etc.. its not that expensive...

here is something you can do at home, the only issue is the 'sand blasting' to make give the surface a nice finish to adhere too... i reckon you could get away without it....

However, the reason i send mine away to a specialist is that they are 'dipped' so the inside gets coated too which helps prevent build up and aid smooth flow of air 'relatively speaking' of course.... not sure on exact prices, but just google some

i dis agree

it works can be fitted properly and helps reduced under bonnet temps so its all good..

as for cost...not the best way to spend money but a tidy mod that doesn't break the bank.

as long as your wrap doesn't have gaps else you get heat spots and then it will crack

Wobba

For what it is, it is expensive.

I however, will do it myself and decide on my own findings, just for shits and giggles and because I can :)

As long as you wrap it properly and not while drunk, and you don't have trouble with stuff like tying shoelaces then leaving gaps in the wrap is not going to happen, otherwise yes, hotspots can form on exposed areas.

High temp silicone spray will help negate moisture, and if done whilst wet, nice and tight, it should not just unravel.

I want pops and bangs, and less under bonnet temperature.

do you notice any difference?

Actually the car is not running jet, and it is together with aditional modifications(cams, pully, new backbox etc.), so I think I will never find it out... :?

Ha ha Oszy! We share the same fate! Our cars spend more time in garage than on the road... But I still love it! :D

How much is ceramic coating?
Mine was about 180GBP for the sandblasting and coating, but that was 12 years ago pricing. Don't think it's as good as a properly wrapped manifold for keeping engine bay temperatures down.

I've seen prices of £400 for ceramic coatings by a reputable company.

i'll have a mooch about here in the USA and see what i can find... the strength of the pound could mean a great deal, i've just contacted a company that does NASA and NASCAR projects so they must be good! haha... i'll keep you informed

have a mooch, the satin finishes are $100 for a 4 cylinder short manifold, so 50GBP, i reckon if you wanted to get a job lot done of spare ones, have them shipped here and then shipped back you will still save big money. just a thought...

besides i think the willy blue manifold would look awesome

well if anyone wants to be a guinea pig send your manifold to me, i'd bubble wrap the shite out of it and send as it is, just makesure you strengthen and shield the studs.. i'll gladly do all the necessary work and postage for cost and i'll enquire as to hows best to send it without any customs issues... considering the product is not remaining in the USA and is coming back to its original country the laws should be simple... but i'll check

A lot of the stainless steel 'exhaust wrap' ties I looked at are only rated up to 150 degrees or so. I didn't think this was enough bearing in mind the proximity to the heat of exhaust gases so I sourced some that were good up to 538 degrees C (which should be enough!) from these guys:

http://www.hellermanntyton.co.uk/productdetail?PRODUCTID=111-00290

The only problem was that I had to buy 100 of the things to get them. But that does mean that I have about 90 of the things spare and could do them for a very good price if anyone is interested - cheaper than anything else you would see and these are the real deal in terms of their spec. PM me if you need any.
