I'm away to start assembling my ARB/Subframe/wishbones tomorrow and i also want to bolt on my manual rack...problem being i don't remember if it goes onto the top 2 holes or the bottom 2 on the subby!

Can anyone tell me as my dads nicked my haynes again so i'm stuck!

Cheers

Sorry to hijack your thread  , but what parts are you using to run a manual rack? As it's something I want to do on my valver

u have to take off the PAS rack brackets and the manual bolts on in its place...

not a very good picture but u can see the PAS brackets which have to be removed. this is where the manual rack bolts on :)

its a basic straight forward swap.

parts needed are 1.2 manual steering rack and steering column. then u need to remove all the PAS pump and brackets and get some brackets fro ma volvo or my 1s are from renault new from a renault 19 got the sheet sumware if u need the code, not cheap tho.

thats all.

Thanks winston.

Next problem i had today is the fecking arb inner bushes - can't get the clips over them! I'm even using the old bushes too!

Is there a tip/knack to getting them on?

Yeah, it's an ar$e. I've painted mine to match the subframe and most of the paint is now getting chipped off by the G clamps, and still I don't have the things on yet. I've just trial fitted the rack and track rod ends and am not overly happy with the amount of track rod end thread that goes into the rack once the car is widetracked (the car will mainly be used on the Nurburgring, so I don't want the thing coming undone one day!). Does anyone know if the Williams track rod ends are definitely longer than the original manual rack ones, and are they the same thread as the manual rack would have so I can just buy these and screw them in?

i had to use slightly longer bolts on my inner arb bushes just so i could get the nut started and then tighten them up, no amount of clamping would work!
