View Full Version : FAO Track Slags.....mk1 weigh in challenge!
Ok so I got bored and my thought of keeping the car comfy have gone out of the window..... lol
Quite a few stripped cars doing the rounds so I thought we could have a weight in challenge ...see what lengths we can go to to get the lightest clio! 8)
No guesstimates only pics showing your clio on a weighbridge....
maybe a seperate section for track only slags and daily drivers? What do we think.... :?:
As far as I know Bish has the lightest car thats been on a weighbridge ...850 kgs or so....but I'm thinking Stevieb's car will take the crown if he gets it on the scales......
this open to any mk1 (eg an RT with a valver engine like mine??)
why not...would be interesting to know if it makes much difference! :)

i think bayliss's car came in at 920kg inc cage and spare wheel in boot, mine will be about the same give or take id of thought so.
but yet to actually weigh it.

mines currently 854kg wthats WITH a cage  , got some more weight to shed yet just gets tricky!
Whilst working on my car earlier doing some mundane jobs, I slipped whilst undoing a bolt with my wand. As if by magic, my rear seats, spare wheel, cage, jack and rear carpet were gone! WTF!?
This weight loss seems to be addictive hehe...
good idea lets have a comp, i got some nice weight saving ideas for the cup car.

yeah as i think the book weight is dry with no fluids at all..there around 995kg i think according to the standard ones i've seen weighed..
My 2 with just the spare and cage removed was 960kg with half a tank of fuel on the weighbridge in Bolton.
So 980kg sounds about right.

as I know, the phase 1 is 980Kg, and the phase 2 is 1080Kg.
example the phase 2 has some "cage" in the doors etc, and maybe other more wheighted items :)
actually a guess only :))

Sounds about right. Pretty sure that it can't add up to 100 kg that has been mentioned above though? I do regret not weighing my car before I started stripping stuff out but I know the weight of most of the items I have removed/replaced so when I get it on the weighbridge at the end I should be able to work out roughly what the starting point must have been.
Haven't you done a few bits since it has been on the weighbridge so now it will be even less than 854kg?
Mr.AdamB
30-06-2008, 14:20
i got some bits to do still but i am happy with the weight atm, all i need to do really is remove the dash, and that will be enough for me, perhaps fibreglass tailgate. starting the engine mods now  so ran a 13.7 with no internal mods, wil lsee wat it can do with catcams in :) and then the next stage after that will be savign for fully worked big valve head
got mine weighed today and took a pic :D happy with that and thats how its staying. its got the normal heavy bonnet on aswell as im no longer using a fiberglass one. 1/4 tank of juice as thats how i always run it and on its 16's with 285's so well chuffed as my daily driver :D

right next to your work mate lol, come out of io centre, turn left on river road and look for the crooked billet pub on left, oppisit the pub is a scrap metal place with a weigh bridge( its not a public one tho and you need to ask the fella in the cabin if its ok as you wont be dropping of scrap metal  ) :D

were would you take it dude?
mines sorn atm but i have removed 99.6kg so far according to my scales
havent a clue tbh as the 17poo brakes and hubs ive fitted weigh a ton and im still to swap the rear beam for an rsi (which im presuming will be a little heavier than the rt beam with drums  )
as it stands now its just getting heavier  , once i sort the driveshaft issue then weight removal can begin  .
id like to see the difference between an f7 powered rt - a proper valver or williams - and a f4r powered mk1. think that would be interesting
Jay the first in the fray with 900kgs not bad at all....
1. JayS 900kgs
Mine weighed in at 880kgs yesterday...but got a few things to sort and I'm going to reweigh it and get a good pic.

btw this is with a fullcage :) [/img]

this was before i fitted the wilwoods
Do you reckon the Wilwoods are lighter than the OE calipers then? I've not weighed mine yet so wasn't sure whether it was a weight saving or not. As I've said before, that is a very good weight including the cage, which must be 20-25kg I would think? Makes me wonder now whether I am actually going to dip under the 800kg mark as I can't think of much I could do over and above yours to save that kind of weight.
I thought the willwoods were lighter - sure I read that.
the wilwoods them self are lighter yes, mine weigh 1 kg each but the brackets that they bolt to are quite heavy so id say not much saving if any from changing calipers
Mr.AdamB
02-07-2008, 01:56
yes the wilwoods are half the weight of the OE calipers, they are chunky things!!!! :)

I think he's taken it pretty far. What can you think of that has been missed? I've got a fibreglass tailgate and maybe have chopped a bit more of the loom out. Short of drilling holes all over the place I'm running out of things to remove!
Mr.AdamB
02-07-2008, 14:11
tjere is lots ui can stil ldo but it gna start costing bigger money, im thinking fibreglass tailgate if u can get a highquality copy so i can fit the window with the std rubber seal + sumhow fit hinges to it. lol...
i weighed the wilwoods wen i fitted them with the bracket + braided hose and it was half the weight roughly 2.2 kg a side or so.
also unsprung weight
i am planning to remove the dash sometime as thereiws about 15kgs sittign there.... and i have loads of excess wiring loom around the car i dont need. so i should be able to get it down to 835 or so with the cage. :)
cage is 35kgs with doorbars i beleive,
