bit of a daft question, but when fitting aftermarket cams, what would the car run like with a standard ecu? like when i start it for the first time. and also, how do i go about mapping it? do they make a new chip to match the cams etc? or what? i'm a bit confused by it all

depends on the spec of the cams as to how it will idle, and the timing figures you have set it to.
As for mapping/chip, your better of taking it to RStuning in leeds and getting its custom mapped.

well i bought the cams from someone on here and i know jackshit about cam timing, but i cant afford to pay someone to do it  haha

I bought some cams off the highly useless BenR a few years back, they were timed to tdc and not mapped but ran absolutely fine and made a fairly big difference. They were cat ones, cant remember the exact model, just some off the shelf jobs, nowt too wild.

running catcams 225's on mine with them timed to correct spec mine wouldnt idle when cold, when hot it would struggle to tbh, after remap its spot on!

this is mine with the cams and remap.

done at chip wizards, despite what most ppl think of him, iv no complaints.

and this is with the inlet changed slightly, and an unmapped ecu ;)

we run cat 208's on our hybrid build, little advance on the inlet and using a standard willy ecu cold starts fine and idles spot on 1200rpm when warm will idle at 950-100rpm very stable.

Very very quick on the road too. 3000 - 6000 is amazing.

what is the complete specs of the hybrid engine ?
any vids ,i am saving up for cams now big style :P

Mine is running the same as yours at 0.50+ in this vid, and I'd like to ask you if remap solved this weird idle? Mine is doing it every time I start it. It's worse when it's cold. What is causing this idle? Is it overfueling?

the cams give more lift at TDC, and therefore overlap. this ****s the map signal, and sounds fuelling out.
a remap would help, but really depends on the spec of the cams and how they are timed.

with ITBS you can get a purrrfect idle, even with wild cams.

dunno mate, the vid with the ecu mapped is from when it had the rn2002 s fitted, the 2nd vid is the 1st start up from when i fitted the rn2003s and the throttle bodies, ecu etc. i never did get round to getting it mapped properly.

this is how mine idled pre mapping when warm, would sit ok until u revved it and would then cut out, start up again and would idle fine untill revved lol

i will try to get a recording of it with mapping, doesnt seem much different to me, just idles all time correctly!

Maybe this will be n00b question, but is it ok to drive around with car idling like s*it? I mean, if it idles like that, then in higher revs it might be better but far from optimal. Can this damage my engine?

I ran mine for months with it not mapped, no idea if it did any damage, but its still running now with no problems.
