Hi all,

I took my car out at oulton after having the jenveys fitted, smaller rad etc etc

PROBLEM: Engine temp creeping a bit higher than normal

1. Fan is kiking in and working ok
2. Dont think there is any air locks as i kept checkign by taking cap of header and pumping hoses.
3. Could be an airflow issue to the radiator as this is smaller than the STD one.

Any ideas?

Pic enclosed of set up showing front of car, obviosly bumper goes over the top, air flow issue or something else?

Should i get a thermostat that starts at a lower temp? At moment it kicks fan it at 90 or three quarters on guage.

to be honest fan should never be needed while car is moving forward...

so you have other issues....think the fact you now have a lot of rad missing means that maybe the reduced items not up to the job..

low temp thermostat might help with lower running temps but as stated fan switch is only there to move over the radiator while stationary...

Had a close up look now and the oil cooler is in frotn of the rad which stops full airflow direct to the rad, also with bumper on and plate on air flow is very limited so will have to make some modifications to the bumper i think.

can you not fit a bigger rad than what u have but still allows the TB's to fit

Try run some water wetter that goes in your coolant to keep temps down

What size are the cores in that radiator & who made it as it sounds like it's under spec'd for the job? Whenever I have rads built I always go for twin 32mm cores to make sure that things nice and cool. I see you've already drilled the main cross member with the trusty hole cutter... a really good move but you should get that cooler out of the way as it's not helping either and trim the hose length a bit to ;)

yes am going to move oil cooler and trim the pipes, no idea why ben at angleworks fitted the whole packet of piping!!!

looks good dude, hasn't maxi got his oil cooler running from the front fog light location? would be a good compromise to allow better air flow to the smaller rad... eye those hoses could do with a trim lol.....

nice to see the project evolving just as your username suggests!

how did you like the bodies on track? much difference?

hi

want to keep the air ducts free for brake cooling, will locate it on the side of the rad i think.,

Bodies made a difference definately, was running out of gears much quicker. :)

Need to get the suspension set up before next outing and sort the cooling.

OK,

1. coolant swap to proper renault stuff
2. Move oil filter and reduce pipework
3. Few neat holes drilled in bumper to help air flow to rad
4. ensure system is free of air locks

Also how easy is it to get a thermostat that lets the fan kick in earlier?

theres a part number kicking about the forum (check guides maybe) for a low temp thermostat. this should help as thats what was in dans car.

cutting the fan in sooner wont help much when you blatting round a track!
besides this will be ecu controled?

Low temp thermo can be brought from BBPT

theres the low temp thermostat but also a low temp fan switch, both can be bought from BB or K-tech i think?

low temp fan switch is not there to help a car once its moving only when stationary...

I can do a low temp stat for £6 posted.

like has been said thought the fan is only there for when the cars stationary, but you can get an aftermarket fan controller (think geesus has fitted one on his mk172) ill dig the pic up

i have a low temp thermo and fan switch on my track, ideal tbh as after a good thrash on track it tends to get quite hot, also 'had' a fan override, but just rewired the entire car so need to rewire the fan override back in!

Apparently i can get the VEMS ecu to run the fan so will look at getting this wired up.
