The 172mk1 is regarded as one of the best front wheel drive hot hatches of all time. It was reviewed on the old version of Top Gear by Vicki Butler Henderson in 2000 and she was so impressed by the ‘evo ness’ she brought one for herself. In the episode she is racing Tiff in a Saxo VTS and the Clio was clearly beating the Saxo on the straights. The slogan for the Clio at the time was “Size matters”.

The base 2.0 engine was the same took from the Laguna and Espace. But Renault handed it over to Renaultsport and F1 supplier Mechachrome and when they finished with it the power was up to 172hp. The major changes include enhanced flow into the intake manifold, machined cylinder-head ducts, Nimonic valves, platinum electrode spark plugs, increased valve overlap and an all-new exhaust system.

This car has had lots of time and money spent on it, I have owned it less than a year and have put over 1k into it. Late last year I had the front bumper and rear bumpers along with the mirrors repainted as they were a little taty and I wanted it perfect, there is no marks on the car, and I would like to think it is one of the tidiest examples available. The wheels have a few little marks on 2 of them but are otherwise fine and are easily referable (something I was going to do if keeping it).

an example of the attention spent on this cat: the painting of the brakes and wheel bolts to keep it looking up together and fresh

I'm amazed you've had no interest - I remember my copy of Evo popping through the with this and the racing puma on the front - I still read it from time to time as with all my Evo's..

This looks just like those photos - fresh as a daisy, if my missus wasn't such a tart and actually would let me swap her car for OUR car (a nice way of getting two fun cars while maintaing its for the both of us  ) I'd have deffo come and had a look... she has a point though we've not even bought our house yet so theres no chance

I just hope it doesn't end up in chav hands
